5 watts, which is nice.  All in all, despite the negatives, this is a nice space heater although at full price, seems a bit too expensive. This would be a 4 star review had my remote not arrived DOA.

 I don't think it's plastic, more like new burning metal smell. I believe it's just the heater elements being used for the first time and burning in. The smell did go away after the first few uses.  Note- this space heater does not turn back on by itself if you cut the power so it cannot be used with an external thermostat

This seems cheaper made than the price point. It's generally a good space heater and I like the auto thermostat feature a lot, along with the fact that it comes with a remote. However, my remote arrived completely non-functional. I opened up the battery compartment and notice the bottom metal piece was completely loose in there, so I had to re-solder that on

 It looks a bit like Darth Vader's helmet in black and I wish there was another color than Black available at the time I made my purchase.  I still like the heater though, especially the fact that I can set it to a certain temperature and it will maintain that temperature in the room as long as the room is not huge.  It's also pretty quiet, especially as the fan slows when it's just maintaining the room temperature. I can sleep with this on no problem

  This heater does produce plenty of heat to raise the temp of a small room by 5 degrees above ambient. I wouldn't use this unless I'm in the room; due to safety concerns listed above. It does seem to function as intended, but thats it.  A fair price for something of this quality seems closer to $50-60, certainly not $150+ IMO

 The remote uses wasteful, expensive and difficult to find LI coin cells instead of something like an AAA cell or two. Tip over sensor is a pressure switch on the base, rather than a positional switch with liquid metal in a glass tube; so it trips if I reposition the heater.  This heater does produce plenty of heat to raise the temp of a small room by 5 degrees above ambient. I wouldn't use this unless I'm in the room; due to safety concerns listed above

  It is entirely made of plastic, inside and out; very lightweight. The heater stinks like hot PCB in use or cold; including new from the box. The touchscreen on top of the TAVH10 variant works well, nothing to break or stick. Heat control is relative since the thermostat is on the heater, rather than the remote (which would make sense to me)

 The safety features are solid (turns off it tipped over, must be level to turn on, turns off if picked up). But maybe the safety features get triggered too easily and they need a reset button on the machine? My machine stopped working after 3 months, I looked up the instructions and tried the few things they suggested, and then called the company. Their customer service is great and they'll be sending me a new one. Sounds like I'll actually get an upgraded one because mine is out of stock

Overall this heater outputs good heat. However I'm disappointed in Vornado, specifically having to do with product quality control of important pieces like the power button. If I'm going to spend $100 on a heater I expect the power button not to sink into the unit after a few uses especially when I carefully press the power button to shut it off.  I'm hoping Vornado will reconsider the design of the button since this is an important part of safety with their heaters

Buyer beware. Power button sinks in.

 The thermostats do not function as designed. They never accurately turn on and off based on the temperature that I selected. It becomes a game of trying to work with the unit versus of dumping it in the trash due to frustration. The manual models work correctly and I regret my recent purchase

  How hot would things get before it shut off? He never told me. Would there be damage before it shut off? Would my carpet get scorched? My linolium discolored? What if the overheat feature failed?  So I tested that feature. When I placed a towel over the back of the unit to block its air intake, it continued to run, and very quickly there was a burning smell. It never shut off

 I may take them up on this.  But since that conversation, I've looked at this heater more closely, and while my concern is still there, its not as urgent as it was.  This unit has a very stable base. It is very difficult to knock over

  BUT:  If, WHILE THE UNIT IS LYING FACE DOWN after being tipped over, someone or something presses that plunger button back in, THE HEATER TURNS BACK ON forcing heated air against your carpet, floor, spilled papers, or other flammable material.  So what happens if a child or a pet tips this over, and manages to lodge something against the button that then keeps it pressed in, allowing the heater to continue pumping out heated air against whatever flammable it fell onto?  Why is this not designed to keep the heater turned off until it is returned to an upright position?  We have another, smaller, much cheaper no-name brand forced air space heater that has a plunger button on the bottom as well, which works the same way, BUT THIS little heater ALSO DISENGAGES the plunger button while tipped over. If you press it in while it is tipped over, nothing happens. It does not turn back on until it is fully upright again

 He considered it such a remote possibility as to be improbable, and told me this plunger button is working as intended. Quiet, efficient heater...the 3 weeks it worked

  Bottom line: I'm keeping it it but I wouldn't buy a second one (or any Vornado model) unless I could buy retail and easily return it if need be. I suspect quality issues like I described are why you don't see Vornado in stores nearly as much. The stores probably got sick of the constant returns and complaints.  EDIT: Changed my mind about this heater and raised it to 4 stars

I've owned around 10 portable heaters over the years. Like all small heaters of this type, the thermostat is basically worthless and shifts all the time. Setting a temperature pre-set is always relative to what the heater "imagines" the actual temperature is. I would ignore this since it's fairly ubiquitous to space heaters in general, but it's particularly discouraging in a unit this expensive

Pros: - The "vortex" fan action seems to be a real thing. If you stand 6-8 feet in front of the fan, you can feel little crescent-shaped gusts of air hitting you. Warm air seems to circulate pretty evenly in my ~200 square foot bedroom. - The "auto climate control" electronics can control the fan speed and heat output in pretty precise ~200 watt increments, from 400 watts to 1200 watts*, so the heater puts out a pretty constant amount of air and heat (and noise) necessary to maintain a room's temperature

  * Oddly enough, I never saw the heater actually use the 1500 watts that it's rated for. (I monitored its energy consumption with a Kill-A-Watt.)

 Fortunately the heater's base plate that this, 'safety feature', floor contact switch is attached to is easy enough to remove with a small philips and then a small amount of super glue may be used to glue the actual internal switch into a permanent ON modality, thus allowing power to always be sent to the heating element (even when set up into non-traditional placements, upside-down for example) . Ever since I performed this 15 minute upgrade the heater is back up to a 5 star experience and is maybe even more of a 5 star experience than when I first got it since i don't have random contact with the floor issues anymore; however I am deducing a single star from the rating since I had to spend so much time and effort fixing a heater that broke after only a single month of use. Very good heating capacity though

I was having a pure 5 star experience with this heater for the first month, and then the heater quit turning on despite the power light being on. I did some investigating and found that the switch on the bottom that indicates if the heater is properly seated on the floor had some sort of issue where it appeared to no longer be triggering the switch that sends power to the heating element.
