Ursack Major Bear Sack

I’m planning a thru hike of the Colorado trail this summer. I’m thinking about getting the 30 liter ursack almighty (16 oz) for me and my partner to share. It is definitely heavier than a standard bear hang, but those just don’t seem to be sufficient for the alpine environment.. it is fairly pricey but the ursack seems like the most responsible food storage option for the hike.

There is no way to hang this bag upside down, and the opening does not seal completely, so in heavy rain, water runs down the tie cord into the bag when hung at night. For the price, it would seem there should be a way to hang it upside down, or seal the opening.

Get the ursack bear bag and USE ODOR PROOF BAGS WITH IT. Research how to PROPERLY hang the bag AWAY from your camp. Ive been extremely happy with it whenever I don't need a canister.

Just received my Ursack AllWhite and was disappointed how small it became once the closure was cinched. For the rather minor additional weight and cost I would recommend that most buyers seriously consider the AllWhite Major.

I have the Ursack Major (I believe this is the same volume as the All-Mitey), which I find to be perfect 90% of the time. The only time I don't use it is when hard bear cans are absolutely required (Yosemite).

Tie closure system is awkward, but otherwise bag is as advertised. If I get a visit from a bear, I’ll be back to update this review.

And in the dusty sierras the lid becomes very hard to screw open or closed if the threads get dirty. And sometimes it won't close all the way due to dirt. And finding a place to plop them down where they won't be rolled off a cliff or into a body of water is also a challenge sometimes. Given the frustrations with the bear vaults I just purchased an Ursack Major XL and I'm going to give that a shot where the cannisters are not required.
