Tom Bihn Synapse 25 Travel Backpack Review | Pack Hacker
At the time of this review, we’ve been testing the Tom Bihn Synapse 25 for about three weeks, including a weekend train trip to Chicago. We’ve also chatted with our friend, Winston, who has been using the 19-liter version of this pack in black for over six months

Your Evolution with One-bagging
In 2017 I went to Tom Bihn synapse 25, great bag but too much built in storage. I sold it in spring 2020 and am now using the Tentree Mobius, mostly in the 16L mode but I love the clamshell and ability to expand when I want to bring camping gear with me. No particular bags on the horizon for me, they just don’t make EXACTLY what I am looking for.

My current bag is a Tom Bihn Synapse 25 with a bunch of pouches. It's a great bag, but I would like another option for travel and edc. Preferably I would like a bag that's not camouflage as I work in corporate and need to look somewhat professional, and would like to stay around $200.
Six yrs onebagging with a 38L then 33L and now a 26L
I love the one-bag evolve too. Went from osprey porter 30 to a Tom Bihn synapse 25, and now a tentree mobius in compressed mode most of the time (16liters). I chose the tentree so I could expand on those trips where I want to bring camping gear.
Help with bag choice
I haven't owned any of the bags you listed, but I would go with the Tom Bihn Synapse 19!
Looking to "size up" from a diaper bag
I'm currently using a Tom Bihn Synapse 25 as a diaper bag. Extra change of clothes and towels in a packing cube, changing pad (from TimBuk2) in the elastic sleeve in the main compartment, and a "diaper cube" from amazon that carries diapers and baby wipes. That leaves the small accessories pockets for other thing such as bottles, snacks, creams, hand sanitizer, portable sleep machine, etc.
What’s Your Current Bag Line-Up?
I own four main bags and have a few more that I use/test/sell.
Tom Bihn Paragon - EDC/Travel
Tom Bihn Synapse 25 - EDC/Travel
Mission Workshop Fitzroy AP - EDC/Travel/Groceries
Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30 - Travel (mainly road trips)
Travel Backpack that fits a 32 oz hydro flask
I highly recommend a Tom Bihn Synapse, which has a dedicated water bottle pocket that perfectly fits a 32 ounce bottle. The Synapse 25 would probably be just right for you.
Something like a Tom Bihn Synapse 25 but less expensive?
I love that backpack as well for it's organization / design, but I only use my backpack when traveling, and therefore I don't think spending that much money is justified...which will probably mean sacrificing quality - which I'm OK with, since again I only use it when traveling, as long as I can find something that is still good. So what is a good backpack that is similar in design to the Tom Bihn Synapse 25 but less expensive (say, no more than around $150)?.

Ultímate 32L bag?
Tom Bihn Synapse 25: too small capacity and just overall looks weird, but I like the zippers and that they’re waterproof. Mystery Ranch 24: Again, way too small but love the build and waterproof zippers. Patagonia Black Hole 32: this one seems like a great option since the other two have lame water bottle holders, these ones stretch, but I am also looking for tough fabric and I know (despite what anyone says) that I’m gonna bang up the TPU coating on this thing so hard. Also, zippers don’t look that beefy.
