My favorite anal lube is sliquid Sassy, it's a nice thick waterbased gel. Though they seem to be having some production issues, it's been harder to find lately.

We've looked at the links on this sub's wiki to get an idea of what's out there, and we would appreciate any recommendations you have for products (and even techniques for first timers as well). 

We're sorry this post is so long -- but we want to let you know our situation and what we're hoping to learn. 

We've been married almost 30 years, and we've doing butt play for almost as long.  She has been using hand-held dildos on me for more than 20 years, and recently we decided to start using a strapon.  

Because of our age, we're not as nimble as we once were, and we're both larger people.  I'm 5' 9" and about 250 pounds (175 cm, 114 kg), and she's 5'4" and about 280 pounds  (165 cm, 127 kg).  She has the beginning of arthritis in her knees, so while she wants to peg me doggy style, she's not sure how long she would be able to last, especially at first.

Best type of lube for self anal play?

I prefer a thicker lube when plugging, it just makes things much easier. Sliquid Sassy is great for that!
