 It looks comfortable as heck so since it is designed to kind of make up with this, I'm going to go ahead and show it to you, but just keep in mind. I don't have it yet. I think the first thing you notice about the backcountry bed is it's completely different from anything you've ever seen before. What makes the backcountry bed really unique, because there's no zippers, there's no toggles, there's no velcro cords any of that kind of stuff

 This! It'S called the the Sierra Designs, backcountry bed, I believe, and it's designed to fit inside of this. It just looks friggin nice. It looks comfortable as heck so since it is designed to kind of make up with this, I'm going to go ahead and show it to you, but just keep in mind. I don't have it yet

 This is not the review where I say: yay go out and buy this, but for my initial impressions and messing around with this and setting it up and inspecting it. I am very pleased with the quality in the build and the design. It'S just nice, it's something that I did not really. I didn't have anything like this, so I'm glad that I got that and this would go really good with if you got a tarp that was the right size, so, let's say maybe 9 by 11

Hi all, I am wanting to get into backpacking and am looking for recommendations. There is so much information around and it is hard to narrow it down to what I really need vs. what looks cool. I don't have a very large budget so medium to lower price items would be great but I am willing to invest where necessary. I recently bought an Osprey Aura so I have the pack covered. For reference, I am a 5'2" women who will probably only do a few days at a time in not particularly cold weather. I am specifically looking for recommendations for the following.

1. Semi Rectangular sleeping bag - three seasons
2. sleeping pad
3. tent
4. hiking shoes, probably with some ankle support as I am planning to hike the Inca trail next year
5. any other "must haves" that you wish you had known about earlier

Would also love recommendations for where/how to buy used gear.

gear recommendations for new backpacker

  I wish the bivy had a way to ventilate while retaining water resistance. I guess I’d need a rain fly for that.  I’d like to see better fabric support at the base to prevent wear and tear associated with hopping around the campground in the bivy sack.

Good ventilation, needs a couple more features

 Let'S just trap: it's very difficult doing this with one hand, so, let's open up so you can see really really generous opening to get in and out of the bag, and that makes it really really handy some of the bags. You know you have. You have to shuffle in like a tube getting into the tuba toba room, but uh with this. That'S fantastic! All right i'll! Just show you i'll just get my mat set up in the sleeping bag and show what it looks like when it's got all the kits inside of it

 It'S got. These tie out points if you wanted to at the foot. It'S also got a tire option at the head, so you can actually tie and keep the fabric away from your face. If you need to, but one of the principal reasons i bought it is it's got a very large mesh bug, protection, so i'll just go and show you that now i'm just going to unzip it, so that is the uh the mesh window and again with it Fully fully zipped up and held off your face, don't feel claustrophobic in it at all

 You don't even notice it in your backpack. To be honest, weighs about 350 grams and is really lightweight fantastic, so i'll just get it opened up and show you the size of it in when we're going to use it. I chose the sierra designs because the features look really useful for me and would suit the sort of camping that i do. Um i'll just take you around it and show you some of the features

 So looking forward to trying out in late autumn and early winter and see how it fares, give it a really good test. So in summary, it packs down really small. It'S lightweight it's large enough for free movement for a side sleeper can fit in a thick air. Mat and three sleeping bag

Sierra Designs Backcountry Bivy mini review

  I like the combo of a traditional bag shape with the benefits of a quilt (no zippers!).  I'm also an active sleeper and the pad sleeve really helps with that too.

For over a decade I’ve used mummy bags for camping and I hate how confined I feel.  More recently I just open up the bag and use it as a blanket.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a mummy bag alternative?  I would ideally need an option for 10 degree weather as well as warmer temperatures in 50 degree weather.  It does not need to be compact as I only go car camping now a days.
