I very recently decided to upgrade -and blow away some money- and I’ve got a pair of the wonderful Shimano RX8. Amazing shoes on which I installed similar cleats to those which I have been successfully using on the M3, the Shimano SPD SH51.

Shimano RX8 SPD shoes have an outstanding feel and stiffness. I really don’t notice much difference from my dedicated road shoe. The walkability of them come in handy during those snack stops on long training rides.

The softer shoes cause pain in my metatarsal after more than an hour riding, whereas the RX8s are good for > 6 hour rides. The RX8s are stiff, as comfortable as slippers and noticeably lighter. If you’re only going to have a single pair of shoes, invest in the RX8.
