Fell Apart in Two Years

It would be helpful to have access to the instructions for putting this together BEFORE purchase so one can determine if you can do it, what you'll need, etc.  Having to lift heavy bags of pea pebbles to fill the interior of this base is not something easily done by this 65-year-old woman who lives alone, and of course, there was no one willing to help at COSTCO.

 The problem is once the pavers or the filler material is set in place, you then have to turn the entire stand on its side or upside down to screw the base together. This causes the filler material to shift around and it’s just dumb. Why are the screws on the bottom of the stand? It makes no sense. Luckily, I was able to turn the stand completely upside down, filled it with large river rock and screwed the base on

The assembly is bad. To start off with, there is all of the warnings about covering the holes in the plastic stand base before assembly so if you are using sand as a filler, it won’t leak out. So you either have to purchase tape and hope it will hold the sand inside or use another type of filler. The instructions suggest using paver blocks and even give a diagram about how to place the bricks

Pluses: very heavy duty and secure, especially once fully assembled, comes complete with everything you need to put it together (with the exception of the sand and bricks mentioned above), post comes with several inserts to ensure a tight fit with the umbrella, at full weight not even a strong wind with an open umbrella will tip it over, while very heavy, the wheels make it maneuverable with one person, obviously, the smoother the ground surface, the easier it is to roll around

Minuses: requires additional purchase of sand and/or bricks to add necessary weight, filling with sand and bricks a bit tricky/cumbersome, tedious and messy, a LOT of screws to secure the bottom plate to the base, and the post was too tall to fit under the umbrella fittings under my patio table with a center umbrella hole, so I need to roll the umbrella to the side of the table

The video shows this umbrella rolling effortlessly across a wooden deck, so we decided to try it for our umbrella which needs to move to provide shade in the right places as the sun travels.  Our own patio is flagstone and I guess not as smooth, so the umbrella doesn't travel nearly as easily as shown, and needs a lot more effort to move, especially if you have to maneuver around other furniture.  I was also not prepared for the "assembly", as I didn't see that mentioned in the description. Better than most

Assembly of the umbrella stand offered three choices: bricks, sand, or both. I chose both for stability as it creates the heaviest base. If I were to do it again, I'd use only bricks. The instructions were to use a brick size I could not find after going to three different home improvement centers

Consider Fill Choices Carefully

This is the base to get when you don't want to mess around wondering if your free-standing umbrella is going to blow away the next time the wind picks up.
