Seagate Backup Plus Hub

It's not SSD speeds obviously but very, very good. I've almost filled this up and I'm looking for something similar in the 6-8TB range (Seagate no longer sells them sadly). SSDs are fast, but much more expensive.

I'm not a tech wiz, so don't assume I know what I'm taking about, but wanted to say I've not had any issues with my 2tb Seagate backup plus portable drive. Had it for years and still runs like it did on the first day. Even after a few incidents with my computer suddenly crashing or losing power. My phone dimensions are about 30% larger if size matters.

I would definitely +1 for the pi + Seagate Hub- I have a Pi4 attached to a Seagate Backup Hub (6TB) which I use for network sharing via Samba. Also have a Plex server setup on it and works a dream. In regards backup I have a seperate (powered) 3TB HDD attached (big enough to backup everything at the moment) and then have a backup run every night from the Seagate to the 3TB drive (using crontab and rsync). I looked into the ready built systems from Synology etc., but as I already owned the Seagate it only cost me the price of the pi (circa £/$70 all in) and a couple of hours of my time and even if you have to buy the Seagate, this is usually only circa £/$ 120 depending on what size you want.

Instructions (even online) are minimal or inadequate, and assume way too much about who is using the device. I hooked this up, registered, requested a Daily Backup and got an on-screen notice that I was "all set"! Indeed, since hooking it up, it ground and moaned and whirred--I thought it's working!...

Performance wasn't mindblowing, but it also wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. ### Logs show 607.09 GB backed up at an average speed of 90.15 MB/s. This is much better than what I've seen on my 2 TB Toshiba L200s (also SMR), which have dropped to the single digits on similar workloads.

I used this drive as an external backup drive with iDrive from a windows 10 computer. Worked fine for about 18 months then bricked. Power cord still working infe but the drive wouldn't come on any more.
