What are the pros and cons of jet fins?  I've read posts on messageboards from professional/experienced divers who say they would never, ever use anything else.  They seem like they weigh 2-3x as much as the fins I'm using now, and they have half the surface area.  Just trying to understand the physics of them.  I've been using the Mares Volo Race full foot for about 6 years now and really like them (all tropical diving).  I'm considering adding a set of bootie/OH fins for shore dives that have a rocky entry.  Thanks!

Jet fins pros and cons?

. they are heavy. like really. Even inside the water i am finding it hard to keep an horizontal pose (while not paddling ofcourse) , i mean like when i'm staying still they like pull my legs toward the bottom

p.s i am a freediver not a scuba diver, so pick what you can from this review o' mine.

They are FAST but...

Mask: just focus on fit/seal, ignore everything else. Fins: Scubapro jet fins or Hollis f1 for drysuit singles/twins over rk3 hd IMO. I use jet fins, but have heard the foot pocket is nicer on the f1 (I don’t notice it on the jets). The extra weight of jets/f1s helps a lot with twins (which are head heavy)

Hello all This is going to have a few questions as I want some more experienced opinions, while I currently only have OW I have no doubt will be doing scuba going forward (I know how many times you have heard that) I am doing a commerical diving course next year so that MAY change my thoughts on some of this but anyway here we go:  


Computer: I am very much a buy once cry once person, after reading and looking around Shearwaters apprently have a great algo and it takes temp into equation? I would also like AI as well im a nerd and its cool. If I know im going to want to do deeper dives, about 80% sold on cave dives is it worth to buy say a perdix 2 / petrel 3 (can't really tell difference) now and then have it last me a good 10 years or so ? 

BCD: Im torn on I have the AP commando wing bcd shortlisted at the moment as it supports single / twinset (also pony+0.4l inflator bottle which I doubt I will use) I want to get to twin ASAP as while yes I should have a buddy near me I would feel safer having redundency thus making me calmer in any event. My question is Buy the AP commando or jump straight into wing style? Im uk based so most diving will be drysuit. not sure how long or if I will get to sidemount at which point I obviously can't use a jacket style bcd I just prefer the pockets + integrated wegihts.

Reg: I don't want to cheap out here as they tend to be important so I was wondering is an MTX-RC overkill ? Uk gets cold but not the coldest but I also like first stage design with rotating tubes+swivel / turret thing as I had a lot of problems with the gear from my dive school hoses. I know apeks are tough so its one where if I can buy it and then be good on that for a while great, my only worry on this is I will be getting FFM trained so if its really cold drysuit + ffm most likley.

fins im eyeing the apeks rk3 (and HD for drysuit) but I won't know till I try some, everything else is going to be a case of "what feels right and I like"

Newbie gear questions

 Ideal setup for your tropical scuba kit. Jet Fins are more compact than some of the other new fins out there, so easier to get around on a boat before you tumble overboard.

 I dive in the tropics, so no heavy dive boots. Fortunately ScubaPro does offer the old style rubber straps and I installed those easily because they use removable pins. Rate my wife's bouyancy and fin control! We're both OW with around 35 dives. Cozumel 2021. Our goal this trip was to reduce hand movement as much as possible. Making progress. As you can see, we have some sand kickers at the front of the group.

 After ordering a set of Large Jet Fins it was very apparent that the sizing is not the same between the Nova and the Jet Fin. I actually needed an X-Large in the Jet Fin. $200 later and I have the X-Large Jet Fin that I needed.

Hi! I've signed up for a beginner course in scuba diving and need some advice. The course requires that we have our own cyclops and fins and me being completely new in this world I have no idea which ones I should buy?
Any recommendations or help is greatly appreciated:)

For some background on me if that's needed. I'm a female former competitive swimmer in my early twenties so I'm really comfortable in water and I've only used the short kind of fins we used at practice.
