 The rear Deore derailleur does have the switch where you can kind of lock it out on a descent to keep it from bouncing around and keep your whole drivetrain and your chain from bouncing around. So that's kind of a nice feature that I use all the time on my trail bikes. My ice cream truck has that and it makes a huge difference when you're bombing down something steep and fast that's you know rocky and whatnot. So back to the the wheels and tires

 It actually comes with a little bit from here down it actually has a little bit of a clear frame protection on it and it actually has it has a little protection here from the front chainring and it has a nice beefy rubber coating on the on the chain stay top and bottom. There's some down here too to protect from the chain.  Fortunately because the cables are internal you don't have to worry about cable rub and put little patches you know here and there for that. If I ever did a spike packet and put frame bags on it and stuff then I would certainly be more aggressive with the protection for that. Salsa Beargrease Carbon - Fat Bike Owner Review - YouTube

 Hey guys, Tommy with Elevation every weekend here. This is my 2021 Salsa Bear Grease. This bike

 literally just came out this week and I was lucky enough to find one and get one. I've been following

 Salsa bikes for many years but in the last year or so since I've been doing more and more fat biking

 I've been really kind of watching their bikes as far as the carbon fiber bikes go. I do have a

 couple of Surly fat bikes which are steel fat bikes which I love but this is kind of a different

 animal. It is a race bike. It's also a race fat bike and you know it's much lighter than the steel

 frame bikes and I did kind of want to add something to the mix that was much more nimble,

 much quicker and then just something different. So like I said these just came out and I was able

 to get one. I'm just going to give you a quick rundown. I haven't even ridden a bike yet. I

 literally just spent today getting the bike set up, getting grips on, getting the pedals on,

 taking the reflectors off, things like that. So the bike is pretty much ready to ride now.

 I did have it set up tubeless at the shop from the get-go so that should make a big difference.

 The stated weight of the bike on the website is 30 pounds. I haven't weighed it yet but I'm going

 to weigh it here shortly and I'll cut some b-roll in of well the number I actually got as is you

 know with pedals, different grips and whatnot. I still got to put a water bottle cage on too so

 I'll do that before I weigh it as well and we'll see where we're at. So just going to tell you a

 little bit about the bike itself and this specific bike but they have a number of choices in the

 bare grease line. They're all carbon fiber like I believe I mentioned it's high modulus carbon

 fiber so it's high quality material. This is the Dior. They actually have two models in the Dior,

 same models just different colors. So this one that I selected which is orange to yellow fade

 which I thought just looks great. You know I love those kind of bright colors on bikes so

 they have a gray version of this if you're not into the bright colors.

 They do have a NX version which is about $400 more than this. This was $2,250. They have an

 NX version which is about $2,600. The other bike I was tempted and looking at was the SLX version.

 It's a green color. It's a sharp color too that I liked a lot and I'm a huge fan of the SLX that

 I have on my Surly ice cream truck. So that was attractive too but it was a considerable jump in

 price. It was about $3,200 so almost $1,000 more than this bike. You know it does have better brakes

 and a couple other things I'm sure but I just couldn't really justify that huge jump in price

 just to get SLX in a different color. I wouldn't even say I like it better than this one. They're

 both good. So I went with the DR which I've had experience with in the past and has worked well

 for me. We'll see how it works on a fat bike. And then they have the the top of the line bike which

 is the the XO Eagle which is about $6,000 and it's got all the latest greatest and it has

 carbon fiber wheels which this bike does not have. So all right so we're just going to kind of

 run through the bike real quick on the main features of it and we'll show you what it is.

 So it's going to go over a couple of the basics on the bike. It is a 27.5 inch wheel bike with

 4 inch 45 north Van Hal goes on it. One thing that was interesting is on the website it says that

 they're 3.8s but the tires themselves say 4 so I don't know what that discrepancy is but

 we'll just go with 4 so that's what the tire says and you know they definitely look comparable

 to the 4 inch tires I have on my Pugsley. So I'm excited to try a 27.5 inch wheeled bike

 as a fat bike. Both my Surly bikes are 26 inch wheels so the 27.5 it should cut a little weight

 out and it should aid in traction for smaller tire sizes. That's one of the benefits is you

 get a longer contact patch and may help the rollover a little bit and whatnot too. So definitely

 excited to try this bike and see how it rides with this wheel setup on it. The wheels themselves are

 the Sun Ringle Mulefoot. They're 80 millimeter wide. They are aluminum rims. Don't have any

 experience with these wheels in the past but I've heard good things about them. They've been around

 a long time so they've definitely been doing fat bike wheels for quite some time. So excited to

 try them. So far so good on the tubeless setup. I don't see any seeping or anything so that speaks

 well to the quality of the tires. They are 120 TPI tires so they're more supple but I don't see

 any seeping or leaking or anything so that's a good sign. I haven't ridden it yet so that may

 change but we'll see how they hold up. One of the cool things that attracted me to this specific

 bike is seeing that I do have the Ice Cream Truck which I love and have featured prominently on this
