For down jackets the sewn through bands (Rab Electron) tend to be less warm. The alternative are box baffles (look at the Rab Positron Pro). They are warmer because the thickness of the insulation does not vary. Usually only heavy duty expedition level jackets use the box baffles because warmth matters, otherwise it is cheaper and less labor intensive to just add more down to sewn through jackets.

Latest Rab purchase, and while it’s been a real asset in the cold weather recently I got caught in a rain shower last night and felt the water coming in under the armpits and back. When I checked at home it had large wet patches at the top of the arms, armpits and across the back. Very disappointed
