 Um i've been using these pencils loyally since august. It is now october 30th um yeah i've been using them since the beginning of august end of july somewhere around there. So i already know how these work - and this is honestly just a pack of pencils i bought for the beginning of this video um. I'M not going to be opening these yet because my set is still perfectly fine and usable

 I have 338, let's lay down a layer of that just over top and you can really see if you work the color in there. It does layer, but just to show this off a little bit better. I'M going to throw in some of that porcelain, blue that we had earlier just to show you that these really can layer pretty well, and just so you guys know i am using strathmore mixed media paper here from a strathmore revision journal. So, as you guys can see, they do work, astonishingly, astronomic, astonishingly well on mixed-media paper, all right

So next up the sharpener honestly um, i was struggling to get these pencil crowns to sharpen with other brands of sharpeners, so i finally ran out to michael's. For the sake of not having to buy another set of these for a while, and i bought this sharpener, it was only i think, 4

 But i have learned throughout using these that colors such as avocado green, do like to break a lot like a lot. I will just show you you can see that most of my prismacolors are a decent size, as you can see here, but if i can find this avocado green, you will see the clear difference in the size between them. As you can see here, here is number 380 avocado green and it is tiny compared to everything else. This color has broken on me so many times

Are They Really Worth It For Beginner Artists?! Prismacolor Scholar 60 Set Review!

Hi, so I've been using the Tombow irojiten (honestly it was an impulse buy, the packaging swayed me haha) and I've been enjoying them but they are a little difficult to use when blending and covering large areas with more pigment (have to press quite hard). 

I've decided to splash on another set of pencils to use alongside my irojitens, does anyone have any recommendations? 

I've been considering Prismacolor but I only worry about the longevity due to how much sharpening they need. The other was the Polychromos but they are oil based so I wasn't sure how compatible they would be with the irojitens. Also I've heard they are a bit hard so I'm worried about coverage and trying to get bolder colours. 

Open to any other suggestions as well :)

Looking to get a second set of coloured pencils

 I knew I would only get more broken pencils so I ended up buying them from a store. So, go to the store, do curbside side pick-up, do whatever you need to if you want these pencils but do not waste your time ordering them on here. Amazon is a hot mess with the way they ship certain items and they don't actually listen to or care about feedback. They'd rather waste their time and money and ours than simply correct an easily correctable issue

 I don't know the proper terminology but Crayola pencils have a "dryer" finish, which I prefer.  I've colored using both brands and I don't see much difference. I kind of like my Crayola pictures better. They seem softer

  BUT this is what I HIGHLY RECOMMEND - DO NOT buy these pencils on Amazon. These pencils come in a cheap plastic box which would be protected if Amazon actually shipped them in a cardboard box instead of a bubble bag that's way to big. The pencils arrived with the plastic case heavily bent, broken open, with pencils out and tossed around everywhere, some with broken tips. I had Amazon replace them with their sincere promise they would be shipped in a box

These are just ok ... just don't have them shipped!

 Sometimes they may be cheaper at others, but what i'm gon na do is take the larger sets, because that's where you usually find the most savings so we'll get a good idea of the general price per pencil. So i'm going to do my workings out in dollars because i was looking on the dot com site so for the set of 150 prismacolor premiere, the average price was 120. Now i want you to keep in mind that there were slightly cheaper sets. There were a lot more expensive sets and especially if you shop on dot co dot uk, they tend to jump up a lot more, but at the 122 dollars that works out at 81 cent per pencil

 I checked back two days later to see where they still on sale and they were so. This seems like a quite a long, prolonged sale, so you can get them at this price at the normal price, they would run at 74 per pencil, but in the sale price they take them down to 36 per pencil, which in my book is budget a budget Approved so the difference between the 150 and the 60 set, if you were to buy them at full price, is seven cent, but if you were to get them on sale, the scholar set is 45 cheaper per pencil than the prismacolor premiere sets. So while i focused on money first, a lot of us know that we have to work to our budget, but does the cost difference or the price difference? Does it make a difference to the quality of the pencils? So what i'm doing is i'm trying to match up each prismacolor scholar to the coordinating premiere as closely as i can and then we'll see how they work against each other. As far as the look of the pencils go, i seem to think when i hold them

 I would also state that the greys are inadequate in their tonal range. You have effectively 4 greys which are 10%, 20%, 50%, and 70%. I would like a larger range so that I can get tonally correct without having to blend different greys.  Bottom-line: These are good pencils that layer very well but the color range is maybe too shrunk down for what is really useful

Good pencils, packaging is terrible !

 Premier is just gon na give you that next level, it's gon na, give you more rich and more vibrant colors, and I've noticed that they ball both blend really nicely. They they blend nice so like here is I'll. Do the neon yellow in the scholar - and let's do an orange in the scholar, so here I'll, lay down some orange and I do find that it does lay down quite nice. It not like other colored pencils like the Crayolas, where they kind of tend to almost be a little bit grainy ER, where these are a step above the Crayolas they're creamy

They really want to lay down color next to each other, and there is not a lot of hmm that scratchiness that you get with the Crayola colored pencils. I do find that even though that the premier's are the scholars do blend quite nicely, I do find that they can tend to get a little bit kind of chalky or not talking about that

 The scholar like I said, and I want to curious to see if they are worth your money or not worth your money. So some of the things that I found out here is a color chart that I created. These are the scholars. These are the Premier's

 The pencils are pigmented and you can do everything with these that you can do with the Premiers if you work carefully and take your time. The variety of colors was fine. I did get these on sale and overall am okay with them but I would not purchase them again, nor would I recommend them to others.

and I was happy with that because a majority of my Premiers are unusable due to non-centered cores. None of the wonky ones broke when sharpened, but again, quality control needs to be improved. The pencils are pigmented and you can do everything with these that you can do with the Premiers if you work carefully and take your time. The variety of colors was fine

Hey guys, this is danielle here and i'm here to tell you about my favorite brand of colored pencils, the prism color. So i own the premiere colored pencils. I am not a professional artist, but i think that they are amazing and well worth the money. So when i saw that they had the scholar version of the prism colors, i kind of wondered what that was all about, so they advertise it as saying it's for the developing artist

 You do not have to press hard once again. This is a soft pencil and it's easily blendable um. It doesn't break fast. I really like this

 Some I barely used in a small section in a book and the pencil was down to half in size because how often I had to sharpen it. Feels like I’m not really getting my money’s worth since so much of it is going straight into the trash in pieces. As a “starter/student” grade pencil set, I struggled with them a whole lot. I doubt I’d ever buy these pencils again
