 You know, it says Viper on the front It has a nice little red heat spreader and this is kind of the same thing We've seen from Patriot for a while. So not much different the actual PCB of the memory modules is green Again, I would like to see maybe black Would have looked really nice on these I feel would have given a better look but you do have that green in the heat spreader If you guys can kind of had kind of see that it is a little bit larger than the actual module but not much It's not one of those really large ones So you shouldn't have that much clearance issues as far as everything else goes Um, very nice little cool design again This this isn't our you know a crazy overview because these are just memory modules But these look really nice, of course with the black and red These will match up really nice with say MSI's gaming line Of course Asus ROG series motherboards and of course any motherboard really that has black or red on it These will match up with quite nicely.  What's going on guys, Bob Buskirk here at Think Computers, and today we're taking a look at some DDR4. We have Patriots of Viper series DDR4. So let's go ahead and take a look. So obviously this isn't like our typical unboxing and overview videos just because these are DDR4 modules and Obviously, it's not a whole lot to look at You know because they aren't like I said, they are just DDR4 modules But we kind of just wanted to show you what they look like and give you an idea of what you would get Of course if you're getting these DDR4 modules and how they compare to other DDR4 that you might be looking at So we received the 16 gigabyte kit that's running at DDR4 3000 now Patriot is offering DDR4 memory kits in 16 and 32 gigabyte kits and the speeds range from 2400 megahertz all the way up to 3,000 megahertz So depending on of course what type of system you're running and how you want to do things you can obviously Pick the kit that's right for you as far as the box It is open so you can get a look at the modules before you buy them and just lets us know some of the main features DDR4 technology quad channel technology and Design for Intel's x99 chipset

 So obviously with DDR4 We're dealing with quad channel kits So we can take a look here so we have four memory modules and of course these are all Four gigabytes of piece. Of course that equals 16 gigabytes, which this is a 16 gigabyte kit as You can see here. I like the simplicity of the RAM, the price is great especially for 4000mhz. The downside is that I cant get my BIOS to POST with any speeds faster than 3600mhz. So that's disappointing.  I'm going to keep tweaking some settings to see if I can get it running at the advertised speeds and will update my review and report any changes that made it work

 Welcome to PCWidzgit's Deck Talk. Today we're looking at something new from Patriot, the Viper Blackout edition of DDR4 memory. This kit here is Ryzen ready for AMD, but it will work with Intel CPUs as well, of course. And it's a kit of two 8GB modules, as you can see right here, blacked out

 Okay, the memory mark is what I'm looking at and if we look at the memory mark and break this down, I'm really looking at the memory read, memory write, and the latency. Okay, those three scores. So let's start with the read here. The uncashed read results, you can see how it performs there, the bandwidth 18443 megabytes per second and of course I compare it to other memory modules

 So those five seconds adds up if you're doing a lot of calculations, right? Passmark, doing great here on the rating. We're concentrating of course on the memory mark. Okay, the memory mark is what I'm looking at and if we look at the memory mark and break this down, I'm really looking at the memory read, memory write, and the latency. Okay, those three scores

 But you know, there's a quick 360 look at it, so that way you really know what you're getting when you open up one of these out of the package. And here's another look of it on the motherboard, so you can see what I'm talking about. So if you get a nice board and it's all blacked out, this will look sweet in there, as you can see. And those aluminum fins, they really do dissipate heat very well

Fractal S2 Case

Power is coming from a 7yr old Corsair CX750 from my old rig. (It's still faultless). Plus the 2TB HDD (thinking about a 2TB SSD but the cost is already above budget). 
Graphics card is reusing a 1660Ti with a view to upgrading that in 6 months or so when the bank balance allows. 

So a combination of reusing and new parts. Anything I'm missing or have overlooked?

Idiot Check

Lost a star for being lesser priced in July 2020 at $275.59. Than it was in June 2020 at $312.69!

 You might wanna just stick to getting like a 3600 speed memory and then spending the rest of the money that you would have spent on getting a better GPU. No one can buy GPUs, just get the RAM. You can't buy anything, just spend your money on RAM, why not, there's no CPUs, no GPUs on the market, you can't buy anything. What a time, what a time we live in

 The cast latency I was grabbing in here was 18. And I'm gonna test that against a few different things on our Ryzen system. Now I've had this RAM for over a month and I waited to make the video because I ordered a Ryzen 5950X. And I thought that would be a better CPU to be testing with this because there's a limiting factor here

 On the Ryzen system that I have right here, this is a 3900X. It will run at the maximum speed. You can go in and configure the XMP profiles and there's a couple different profiles. You can set it up to run at 4266 cast latency of 18

Beware of this motherboard ASUS PRIME B660-PLUS D4. It has compatibility issues with certain memories and XMP enabled in BIOS will freeze your computer! I have one of the most selling RAMs modules in Europe and they do not work with this motherboard even though with other ASUS motherboards for the AMD platform the XMP works fine. I don't want to mention which memory it is on purpose so ASUS can improve their testing and compatibility issues by themselves. It is a shame and surely my last ASUS product. MSI has much better products and is taking care of compatibility much better.

<div class="md">Beware of certain ASUS Motherboards with B660 and H670 chipset. There is a bug that prevents you to use your memory modules with the XMP profile! This issue is most likely the result of half-baked buggy BIOS from ASUS. Then your computer will freeze no matter where including BIOS itself and you have to do a hard reset (remove CMOS battery) of BIOS and use memory on default (much slower) clocks and settings. On other chipsets or on MOBOs from different manufacturers such as MSI the memory with XMP works well! Therefore this is clearly a problem in BIOS/MOBOs and ASUS must address this asap! In addition to this with the 1009 BIOS update, there are introduced random crashes in games - I strongly recommend not to update your BIOS as of now!

There is a workaround that DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE though: If you use 2 memory modules put them into A2 and B2 DIMM slots. If you use 4 modules, then use only 2 in mentioned slots and the rest two modules put on the shelve and watch them collecting dust. Thanks for that to ASUS and their lazy QA department, product team, and useless support team ;-)

We have feedback for instance from Mr. Jiri Knopp from Czechia ASUS Support, basically in short he is saying &quot;I don&#39;t care about some online forum and few cases there. It is problem of RAM, change/buy different one. Also, we don&#39;t list any sign of this problem internally.&quot; So the official support will not notify their product team about the problem even after providing proof. If the product team does not know about this, then surely there will be no fix. Thank you ASUS!

Even after this bad experience with ASUS support in Czechia - I would like to ask everyone who is affected by this issue to try to report this to ASUS support. In different regions, there might be some help and customer care on a different level.
