So yeah, R1 Air, really excited about this new piece, really great high exertion piece in our lineup of regulated products.

I find myself using the r1 chest pocket + thumb loops for warmth than the melly kangaroo pocket. However, the melly hood scoop with a cinch is much warmer than when I am fully covered in the r1. ​. The r1 air chest pocket keeps snacks warm when it’s cold and discourages putting in heavy items that will make you have a saggy, heavy chest.

That said, I can comfortably hike with this on over a Patagonia Capilene Cool long sleeve shirt from September through November (upper 30Fs in sun to high 70Fs with low humidity). It's very breathable. I also have the R1 Pullover, but the quality on the R1 Full-Zip is way better. Much thicker cuffs and a better fit overall in my experience.

The Patagonia version I own has a respectable amount of loft and weighs 11.4oz/325g. The fleece can be replaced by a Merino sweater. A Merino top looks dressier and would actually layer well with the down sweater. The R1 is bulky , but very comfortable and breathes well.
