Great but very thin

 Although less easy to use than a designated compression sack, with good technique and a little extra time (manually compress and to get the air out) it does its job. I will still continue to use a trash compactor bag to keep things dry, during prolonged rain and the chance that I may take an unexpected bath when fording slippery bottomed creeks and rivers. Overall this product works for my use and I am happy with the purchase of it.

Didn't really see much difference between these ultralight sacks and the normal OR dry sacks ... so I ended up returning these (more expensive) ones and getting more of the normal dry sacks, which work excellently! I can't really imagine a scenario where I need the couple grams difference between two dry back choices

  One last note about packing sleeping gear: Do NOT leave your sleeping bag/blankets/thermal layers compressed inside this bag for long term storage (i.e., more than a week or two) or it can permanently reduce their loft and thus, their warmth/thermal efficiency. Sleeping gear should always be stored uncompressed over the long term, such as draped over a hanger in a closet or loosely contained inside a very large laundry bag (not a smaller stuff sack)

 It creates a vacuum effect that very effectively holds the blankets in their compressed state (like those 'space saver' vacuum bags once sold by infomercial), reducing the volume they take up in my pack. Awesome!  As for the durability of the material: It is high quality silnylon (40D, I think), but it is very thin so it will need to be protected from abrasion. As a storage sack inside a pack, it should fare wonderfully well, but you should plan to use care when you get to camp and make sure you aren't tossing this around unnecessarily in the dirt and debris. Otherwise, grime, twigs, rocks, and/or other rough objects will eventually abrade it, either wearing away the waterproof coating or possibly even wearing a hole in the fabric

  The stitching is so meticulously well executed that this bag will trap and hold air very well, as a proper dry bag should. Indeed, with air sealed inside it, it would probably serve as a passable camp pillow and support a modest weight (like your head) without deflating. I haven't tried using it in that role, but my point is that the quality of construction is excellent. Granted, this material will never be as inherently and reliably waterproof as the much heavier built dry bags (vinyl, PVC, thick coated Cordura, etc

Outstanding construction and light weight at a great value; perfect for backpacking!

I researched multiple brands of dry sacks and settled on Outdoor Research given the quality and performance at a reasonable price. I used the 15L to safeguard my sleeping bag (REI Lumen) while backpacking in Iceland during the rainy season. It had ample space and allowed for easy compression if vented during compression prior to sealing. They are made of quality fabric and while mine was never directly exposed to water, I never noticed any humidity accumulation over the course of the trip

Quality Dry Sack

I use this dry bag inside my day pack or overnight back to protect the gear I need to keep dry, especially if there is threat of weather.  It has been very helpful in keeping my down jacket, extra layers, camera, iphone, etc dry during spring and summer flash storms that dump a lot of rain and precipitation in a short period of time. I also use this dry bag to help organize and reduce the size of the contents of my pack.  With its minimal weight, why wouldn't you want the assurance of waterproofing, and the added organization to your pack?
