These vacuums are powerful enough to clean hard floors without the added complexity/weight/bulk of a spinning brushroll, which lets them be simultaneously versatile and extremely lightweight in the hand. In terms of budget, it's about $60-200 for a budget model (~5 yr lifespan) and $250-600 for a buy-it-for-life (15+ year lifespan) model that'll be quieter, higher capacity, better filtering, and just plain nicer to use. Miele, Numatic, and SEBO all have great options, but I'll narrow it down. This $300 Numatic Henry Compact is probably the best value canister on the market at the moment.

Retractable cords are usually a premium feature. Uprights are a budget compromise, if you want to retractable cord you'll be looking at canister vacuum cleaners like Miele,SEBO & Numatic.

The vacuum itself is smaller than it appears in the videos. Also, it came a bit damaged and suction is not as great as they showed in the video. The annoying part is the retractable belt. You have to do it manually.

Numatic vacuums are a bit hit & miss. One shop I worked in went through 3 of them in 10 years. That's a much better average than a lot of other brands but hardly BIFL.
