For around that budget you can get a basic Swiss Army Knife, Opinel, or a Mora Companion. A decent little folding knife is always useful for camping or not.

I've never bought Morakniv before, so I'm truly pleased with the high-quality blade and rubberized grip. The hilt before the blade tang could be a bit larger to prevent accidental hand or finger cutting when/if the handle slips, but I suspect this would make it even more of a challenge to get out of...

My buddy had the scharade and it seemed decent. I’d go with a mora companion HD though. The carbon version is decent steel (essentially 1095).

The knife arrived unpackaged but it was sharp. The plastic sheath fits quite snug and there is difficulty removing the knife with one hand from the sheath particularly if you have large hands. It has a uniform plastic handle that looks like it won't snap. Time will tell how long this knife last but ...

I still carry folders, but I recently bought a Mora Companion as a camp/pack knife and love it for food prep.

For the money this is a nice, sharp durable knife well worth the price. I’m not sure how durable it will be so I would not classify it as a “survival knife.”

A big knife might seem like it's better but they are usually less practical when it comes to fine carving tasks and are heavy on your belt or in your bag. If you look at people who actually spend a lot of time in the bush most of them are carrying knives that have a blade length of between 4-7in and a hatchet for chopping wood. If you need to cut through dense brush you can get a Cold Steel machete for around $20 as well. If you already have a Mora Companion I'd say just try to save up some more money and look at knives in the $50-$100 range.

This is a very nice knife for the price.

I cannot image a better fixed blade for the price.
