The Midland Er 310, like other portable emergency weather radios, doesn't receive same alert notifications, but does scan the seven No Aaa weather channels and receives weather alerts. A small red light to the left and above the operating buttons comes on for an hour after a weather notification comes in to prompt you to check the Noaa weather channels. For the latest update, you have the option to set the radio to scan by channel or frequency. It comes with both day-to-day and emergency features, and it has an Am, Fm and no Aaa weather radio stations, but while you can switch between the three, you can't preset the stations so you'll return to the last one you were on in each mode

 In addition to instructions Usb cables in the battery, the set comes with an emergency kit checklist. Thoughtful. Extra Seriously though, you might make sure you test and maintain the emergency radio if it is part of your camping and survival kits. Don't leave it plugged in all the time, but do set yourself a reminder to check, test, and recharge the battery every one to three months

Everything on Amazon has a ton of mixed reviews (both Midland and Kaito) -- a lot saying that the radios don't charge and failed the user when most needed. Does anyone have recommendations other than the cheap Amazon stuff that will actually last?

Looking for a good emergency radio

 I just contacted Midland because they do not show the 18650 pigtail battery to be available on its website. Sure enough, Midland confirmed that the new ER310 takes a standard 18650 and the pigtail battery is "no longer available". The plan is to keep this older ER310 and use it with batteries but will but a different brand from Amazon. As soon as I confirm that the rechargeable battery is not proprietary, I will buy "Emergency Radio, 5000 Digital Weather Radio with AM/FM/NOAA/SW,SOS Survival Portable Radio" for about half the price of the Midland

 When Hurricane Ian was about to strike, I found that the modified 18650 rechargeable battery was dead and no one sells this battery with the pigtail connection. I made do with flashlight batteries and that was okay. I just contacted Midland because they do not show the 18650 pigtail battery to be available on its website. Sure enough, Midland confirmed that the new ER310 takes a standard 18650 and the pigtail battery is "no longer available"

Midland Does Not Support This Radio

 You can run the radio and have this like sitting in the window charging at the same time without any problems and it also has a hand crank that you can use to recharge the unit as well. Okay and should anything ever happen with the lithium-ion battery, it will accept six double A's as well. Now a note about uh, things like the solar panel here and then also the hand crank. That is going to be good for getting small amounts of energy when you need it

 This is high which is 180 and then also it has an Sos mode which in this case means save Our Scooby and that same button there. If you press and hold it you'll see a dog symbol flashing in the upper corner. Well what that's doing is that is kind of like a dog whistle that'll help like search and rescue animals find you if like, you and your family are buried in rubble or something awful like that. All right

 This is something that my wife got me for Christmas this past year. It's not something that Midland sent me. If I ever have a product that we're looking at that was sent to me, I'll be sure to let you know that, but this was a Christmas gift I'd kind of been wanting for a little while and it has pretty much all the features you'd expect from a radio, plus a few extra goodies that would be good in an emergency. So starting with radio features it has Am has Fm and then it also has the No weather frequencies

 Another good thing I like about this is its size. This is a lot smaller than other emergency weather radios that I've seen. A lot of them are kind of taller. They wouldn't fit as well in a bag as this will, so that's that's very nice and it would fit you know in a kit

I am awaiting an emergency alert my community is holding this coming week, so that will let me know how well the alert feature works. I have been trying to charge the battery using solar, but after two whole days in the sun, the battery still only shows two bars. How long does it take for solar to charge the battery?
