 Its still there but its more usable than most. What im basically saying is Marshall managed to tick off all the right boxes when it comes to wireless connectivity on this speaker. But what drives me mad about this speaker is that it doesn't have a multifunction button to play or pause your music or to skip a track. When I first got this speaker I assumed this button was a multifunction button but its not

 The Kilburn 2 also keeps the audio jack which is great to see cause some of the manufacturers are starting to get rid of the audio jack even on their larger speakers namely the UE Megaboom 3 and Sony XB501G. But I do wish the Kilburn 2 had a USB A out port or a USB C port so you can charge your own devices when you're out and about. But thankfully the Kilburn 2 is rocking bluetooth 5.0 instead of bluetooth 4

 But I can't help but feel that its instrument separation and sound stage could be better. Bass is not a problem on the Kilburn 2, but everything just sounds very close together compared to JBL's older and newer speakers. The Kilburn 2 by no means sounds muddy, but when instrumentals really get going everything just tends to blend together. But over all the Marshall Kilburn 2 is a decent sounding speaker that gets more than loud enough at max volume

 Here's everything that I like about the Marshall Kilburn 2 and everything that I hate about the Marshall Kilburn 2. The Kilburn 2 is Marshall's largest portable bluetooth speaker and retails for $300. And even though it looks basically identical to all of Marshall's other speakers, the easiest way to point out a Kilburn 2 is by the built in carrying handle. Marshall KILBURN 2 Review - So Close

 There's nothing glaringly wrong with the Marshall Kilburn II, but its price feels rather high for what it offers.

On Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild," the kick drum loop receives ideal high-mid presence, allowing its attack to retain its punchy presence in this mix. The sub-bass synth hits, however, are dialed back&mdash;we get more bass push from the drum loop and less from the sub-bass sounds that punctuate the beat. The vocals on this track are delivered cleanly and clearly, though there is a touch of added sibilance here and there.

Marhsall offers no shortage of Bluetooth speakers, and at $299.99, the Kilburn II fits somewhere in between the Stockwell II and the Tufton in terms of both price and size. Even for a mid-size model, the Kilburn II is portable in the sense that you can carry it by its strap, but it's too heavy and bulky to, say, throw in a backpack. The good news is that it can deliver some serious power for its size, and adjustable bass and treble knobs allow you to alter its sound signature to suit your tastes

On tracks with intense sub-bass content, like The Knife's "Silent Shout," the Kilburn II delivers powerful bass depth for its size. The bass knob can be maxed out, as well as the volume knob, without any distortion occurring&mdash;though this is not how it sounds best, and distortion or not, there is some rattling of the speaker's enclosure that can start to occur at these high volumes on deep bass tracks. Indeed, the bass makes the drivers work so hard, the back port of the speaker acts almost like a bellows. At more reasonable volumes, with the bass and treble set to the middle position, the Kilburn II delivers a palpable thump on this track, balanced out by bright high-frequency presence

 You can't connect the speaker to any kind of smart home as Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple Siri or any type of Wi-Fi. Also, it hasn't got any microphone, so calling via the speaker won't be possible. In my opinion, the sound is great. I mean, the whole concept of the speaker is very great

The best Portable Speaker? || Marshall Kilburn II (2) Review

I recently moved countries and had to leave behind my AudioEngine A5+ speakers at home. The A5+ are a great set of speakers, and I loved them, but they're not really something you pack with you in your suitcase since they are huge and heavy.

I would keep the HK if I can reduce the bass a bit. I like the bass on the C5, I can't adjust it either, but at least is slightly less vibrating, though the audio quality is slightly less than HK.

I am looking for a Bluetooth shelf speaker that is relatively portable. Not interested in a boombox.

 You can disable the bass completely by holding the Bluetooth + "-" button for ten seconds, but then it sounds like a cheap speaker. The HK app doesn't work, maybe it's not made for this speaker, and devices struggle to pair with it.

Randomly stopped working after 3 days of use.

 I'm not quite sure how to set the dials also because the bass already starts to roll off below 100Hz. It reaches quite deep but the peak is between 100 and 200Hz so too much upper bass making the sound somehow boomy, closed. It's some kind of inside the box sound so it doesn't offer you this nice open sound of the Stockwell II. Yeah but it's not bad by no means so it doesn't have any issues, does not distort, does not fart or whatever

 Still I think Marshall tried to offer you a similar but improved sound over the old Kilburn, I mean the old one was quite popular so they probably didn't want to change too much not to put off their customers. But gone is the strong retro look, you can see they redesigned the grille here which I personally like more now, it's also more in line with the other models but you don't get this nice golden panel on top without this very old-school flip button here, you still get tone controls with their own knobs and buttons and it has multi-pairing, something the old one didn't have. But completely new is the acoustic design so it consists of one woofer with one tweeter at the front and another driver at the back. So it applies the same Blamline processing we already know from the Marshall Stockwell II but I think it doesn't work that well for the Kilburn II

 As you can see it has too much upper bass, there is a strange peak between 1 and 2kHz and another dip at 5kHz. So overall the sound is a little bit strange and I would like to demonstrate you this. I would like to go inside first and we'll compare it maybe against the Enka Soundcore Motion Plus which is a lot smaller also cheaper but I think at normal levels it can compete quite well and even outperform the Kilburn II and we can also compare it against the AudioPro Add-on C3 which is similarly priced a little bit smaller but also has Wi-Fi so it's the similar version to the T3 but I think the C3 sounds better also because it offers tone control just like the Kilburn and later on we'll go outdoors because I heard some claims that it's a loudspeaker and it's indeed quite loud, about the loudness of a JBLiX Stream 2 maybe but with more bass so it doesn't reduce bass at high levels but rather keeps bass at a high level and reduces treble instead. So I thought we will compare it maybe against a Minirig 3 setup with a Minirig subwoofer

 It does a nice job but I think it must suit your own taste. For my taste it's a little bit too colored and too artificial sounding. But I like the design more than from the old one, it doesn't look that retro anymore so it looks quite nice I think. And next time we'll of course compare the Marshall Taftan against some other ones, I'm still not quite sure what to use here but yeah, let us surprise

Marshall Kilburn II - review and sound demo

 To be specific, the volume on the streaming device is maxed and the main volume on the speaker is set to 2, maybe 2.2 if you could tell, the bass and treble are both set to 5. This puts the battery life at 10 hours at a very very low volume. Maybe it’s just mine?

Let’s start with the pros, the design and build quality are superb, the classic amp design is wicked. The adjustable knobs add to the classic design and the battery indicator is something all Bluetooth speakers should have in my opinion. It really only has 1 con that I see right off the bat, is the battery life doesn’t match the manufactures estimated play time, and it’s not even close. In my work I answer the phone a lot so I’ve had it on a very conservative volume for 5 hours and it’s already at half life

Battery life to be desired

Please suggest a good speaker. I listen to more of acoustic/indie music and want to hear more of what the artist intended to record and I feel Marshall does that well.
