 My last canister vacuum had the release button on the main handle, so while you are vacuuming and want to switch quickly to the stairs, you would just press the button with your right hand, drop off the carpet attachment, and attach the stair portion with your left, this one you have to hold the handle with your right, press the button and remove with your left and then reattach. Not a big issue, but an easy fix to make it more user friendly. Lastly, it's not the greatest on carpet because it is hard to push. Yes, this is where that weird suction option would come in, but then I got to wonder if you're getting as much dirt up if you let up on the suction

 Pros: This has excellent suction, and a lever to release some suction if you don't want as much, but no idea why/when anyone would use that. Works wonderfully on hardwood floors and the stair attachment is also easy to use and works great for not only stairs, but furniture, welcome mats and flannel bedspread to get off the lint balls. The bag is huge and doesn't need to be replaced very often, even with pet hair. Transition from hard wood to carpet is also very easy

 So gorilla tape it is. I have done some research and consumer reports says this is one the top canister vacuums on the market and with the fact that it is now over $500 I think it should last more than 4 years.

Amazing suction, not ergonomical, updated 7/22

 --Hepa filter & the bag prevents allergens & dust from being kicked up into the air as you vacuum. Our air purifier didn't come on once while I was vacuuming. So that's another plus for me as I have allergies & my cat has asthma. --Great suction with a suction control level AND multiple height levels allow you to find the perfect setting for carpet, area rugs & floors

 As it is, this vacuum will have to suffice because it cleans the plush carpet well & has an effective Hepa filter.

 When we purchased our new carpet 3 years ago, both our Dyson & Hoover stalled immediately & wouldn't budge. We bought an inexpensive (cheap) Eureka that did the job BUT it sent dust & allergens up into the air causing our Dyson air purifier to kick in at level 10 until the air had been purified again. I didn't opt for a new Hoover, Shark, or Bissell upright because of problems I read for each one but primarily because some customers complained they didn't work on their plush carpet. Well, the Kenmore does that and so I'd give it 4 stars for plush carpet cleaning

 Has all the attachments you might need. Pretty good suction. The materials seem a little cheap though, and I had to tighten one part to get the hardwood part to stop pulling out of the carpet part all the time. We had an older version of this and it felt more solidly made than this

 Somewhat angry as there is absolutely no place in the Amazon Description that states that these most important features do not come on this model! So please pay attention to what you are purchasing as per the features. Because these features were not in the advertisement, I thought I was getting a great buy but turns out not so! Great Motor

 Now, that joint is much stronger than it was, and it doesn't look bad. We shouldn't have to do this, but it is what it is. Otherwise, it's a pretty good vacuum cleaner.

Good for the price. But you'll want to make one modification immediately.
