I own no grill what so ever. What is recommended as a good start?

Forget the gas grill. Get a Weber, SNS or Kamado Joe Kettle type BBQ grill. Hard pressed to do any hot/fast grilling that could possibly yield better tasting food than on something like these.

One thing every man needs to own in his life is a Weber kettle...change my mind.

Having used a kettle for many years and adding a gas grill, an offset smoker, a WSM, and a letter grill to my toolbox, when the time came to replace my old Weber kettle, I chose a Kamado Joe Kettle Joe because of provided more versatility out of the box than a base Weber kettle. I do still remember my old Weber kettle fondly because it provided the ability to do many things on an inexpensive grill.
