J Skis Masterblaster—2017 Buyer’s Guide

 My name is Jason Leventhal and this is my ski company Jay.

 This is a brand new ski for me this year, it's called the Master Blaster.

 It's a little narrower than my other skis, it's 96 waist width and that's going to make

 it super quick edge to edge, a really good all-mountain ski.

 A lot of people come to me and say, hey, I want an all-mountain ski but I want something

 A lot of the carving or all-mountain skis today are really stiff, they're not that fun.

 This thing is going to carve like a race ski but when you get it in the softer snow you

 can jump into the trees and still have a good time, very, very playful and it's got metal

 in it down the center, it's six centimeters wide.

 I put the metal where you need it and removed it where you don't so there's no metal in

 the tip and it's only a narrower strip down the center.

 The metal is going to give you more power, more stability, more torsional rigidity for

 carving turns but it's going to be lighter weight because it's not edge to edge.

 It has a lower tail, still you can go backwards a little bit but the lower tail enables me

 to add four centimeters longer effective edge on the side cut so this 182 has about the

 same amount of edge as a 186 so you're going to get a lot more running length and I think

 what makes this ski more different than any other all-mountain ski again is it's powerful,

 it's stable, it lays down carves beautifully but when you get it in the powder or jump

 into the woods at any point it's going to be tons of fun, super playful because it's

 got enough rocker to float but that rocker isn't so much where it's going to be flapping

 around, it's going to engage in the tips and really surprise you, I mean you'll be dragging

 your hip laying down carves and still surfing in the trees so this is called the Master Blaster.

Don't do any park, but want something that can handle powder and trees but still be really fun ripping down groomers. Youtube reviews only provide so much info though. Looking for some insights from skiers on here and their experience with these skis (and maybe even some other similar skis that they think are awesome)

 You're getting a pretty cool limited custom look for the price of an off-the-rack stock ski. That's kind of neat. You're probably not going to see anybody else on your exact graphic for the lifetime of the ski as you're skiing it around, so that's pretty neat right there.  It's a 96-millimeter waist, so it's going to give most people fairly decent float in smaller medium storm totals, I'm thinking like the 4-8 inch range, this is going to be a pretty solid powder ski for days like that and then for the rest of the time all over the hill, just a really fantastic, powerful, playful option for doing just about any kind of skiing other than I would say full-on park skiing. So we're going to break it down a little bit starting with construction here and kind of tell you what's going on with this ski and hopefully you'll be able to glean enough from this review to kind of give you an idea if it's right for you. So first and foremost we've got a fairly standard construction here, kind of like all the other J skis, these come with a nice maple laminate hybrid core, that's a very, very snappy, powerful wood laminate that we see in a lot of more big mountain specific skis, we've talked about this a few times with the other J skis reviews, we like that they use maple in their cores, it's a very powerful wood, it's a very snappy wood, it retains its energy very well over time and doesn't fatigue quite as fast as maybe some less dense, less powerful wood laminates out there on the market. On top of all that and on top of the layers of fiberglass that give you that extra rigidity and that extra kind of characterization to the flex shape, you can see through this translucent layer there's a nice big piece of titanal metal that runs all the way more or less from the tip, stops right about here to the tail, stopping right about there, you can see it

 These things come out 150 to 250 at a time in limited edition graphics. This particular one is the Predator model of the Master Blaster, and you can see down here in the little translucent cutaway, Jason Leventhal signs and numbers every single ski that comes out of his shop, so you can see it's a limited edition. You're getting a pretty cool limited custom look for the price of an off-the-rack stock ski. That's kind of neat

 and today we're checking out the Master Blaster from J-Skis.

 Hey everybody, welcome back and once again today we're checking out the J-Skis Master

 This is kind of their more heavy-duty all-mountain freeride option.

 It's similar in a lot of ways to the J-Skis All Play, but rather than being more freestyle

 oriented ski, which that ski is because it's a full twin-zip, this is a semi-directional

 construction and it's also got a big piece of metal in the middle to make it a little

 bit more stiff, give it a little bit more power.

 So if you're looking for an all-mountain freeride option and you don't really care

 about having that freestyle capability that a full twin-zip will give you and maybe you

 want a little bit more power in your playful all-mountain ski, this is definitely a good
