 If you withdraw, you take all of your clans to a neighboring territory, and if you attack, you force your opponent to make yet another difficult choice. They can either discard an action card from their hand or they can lose a clan from that territory. Both of these are horrible, then it's their turn to either attack or withdraw the clash only ends when one or two things happen. Only one player has clans left in that territory or all players involved in the clash agree to end it

 Each round in the assembly phase, the players are checked for victory, the bren is assigned and the turn order might change. Action cards are also handed out in the season phase. The action happens, players take actions mainly by playing cards so so far, it's all pretty standard, but this is where ns really gets interesting. Almost every single thing that you do in innis comes from action cards

I been in this hobby for about one years now and discover that I prefer heavier games: Spirit Island, On Mars, Barrage for example. 

When a game has a weight less than 3.0, I tend to not be interested in them, with few exceptions. That being Orleans, Yokohama and Tzoklin. Wondering what your exceptions are :)

 Long term strategy seems all but impossible. Therefore, Inis is, without a doubt, one of the most TACTICAL minis war games you may ever play! Your strategy must literally change from turn to turn, or even CARD TO CARD!! Inis is essentially controlled chaos! Some players, like me and about half my group, LOVE this aspect of the game. It's scratches a unique itch that very few games ever do.  Long term players of such classic games like Cyclades and Kemet may be aghast at such a notion

 I could see more then one player struggling to discover just what strategies to follow for victory. One player almost tossed his cards up into the air in frustration! I've not seen that in ANY game I've played before..

 Of which there are only 17 actions TOTAL in the game, that will come up in random order. I think you can see where this is going. Long term strategy seems all but impossible. Beautiful, Tactical, Unique......But VERY DEVISIVE Game!

There are multiple reviews on gameplay on YouTube, so I will keep my review to the physical aspects of the game.  The version I received is blue with silver lettering in the box. Game had one phrase in French written on it—the tag line beneath the title on the box—but otherwise all text is in English.  The game arrived well packaged, with no damage to the outside

 I will say though, it is tense throughout. Every turn FEELS like the last turn, it feels like you could win every turn if you play your cards right..

 It is the extreme of clean design, deep choices, and a lot of variation between plays. The game is extremely interactive, to the point that it makes it quite a reactive game, with nobody really being able to snowball a lead because there are consistent answers that people can have to any kind of lead. You see victory coming many turns in advance, and there is plenty of opportunity to try to prevent a victory while setting yourself up for a victory in the future. The game has an incredible amount of replayability

Things to consider: The game is very different at 3 and 4 players

Absolutely Dynamic

 The card drafting mechanic (which governs ALL actions in the game) is executed perfectly.  You spend a fair amount of time mulling over who could have what cards in hand (there are only a total of 16 basic actions cards in the whole game, with other cards for more unique special onetime actions) and because of this you often get to play some really fun surprise attacks or nutty combos on opponents. It’s a really well designed game and again the art is just incredible. Usually only takes 1 game to learn most everything, biggest mistake people make is assuming everything needs to end in bloodshed or combat

Yes there is “combat” in the game, but it literally always ends in pointless attrition that can knock you out of the game, instead this game is primarily area of control where you have to occasionally learn to live with your rowdy neighbors. Love this game
