I splurged and got an IKEA Kallax 4x4 unit with all the fancy drawer inserts for every cube. Now all my online business supplies and little miscellaneous stuff goes in there, instead of five mini-dressers scattered around the apartment. Literally a quarter the floor space, and way better organized.

Also saying not to build it like this, but you can do similar (but safer) by using the the IKEA KALLAX desk add on, and then adding an extra KALLAX unit at the end of the desk. The add on unit does restrict have drawers right next to the desk but you can put them in other places. The specific drawer combination is just different KALLAX inserts.

You could use some cubed bookshelves to serve as a room divider between kitchen area and bed/desk area. IKEA Kallax is a popular one

Should have read the reviews. Not IKEA. Was delivered damaged (dent is bigger than it looks in picture). Harder to put together than the IKEA Kallax shelf unit. Very unhappy with this purchase.
