And if you move (which is likely, seeing how you rent the space) you will find it easier to do something useful in your new space with an IVAR, and it's a more future-proof furniture than ELVARLI (remembering how Ikea discontinued its predecessor STOLMEN). If you absolutely want ELVARLI, you can put in a [side instead of the post where the fixture is. That said, in your situation, when the place shouldn't be closed off permanently, I would look at an entirely different solution, e.g.

Shelf with a space for the tv built in. Check out ikea IVAR, they are cheap, modular, “honest design”, you can disassemble them when moving house, the pack flat.. and they are so cheap you can modify them without serious skill.

If I was furnishing the space, I'd put something like [this Ikea Ivar on the right side. You could put books, plants and/or decor on the shelves, and have a little desk you could fold away when it's not in use.
