One of the best no-nonsense alloy wheelsets we've tested, the Hunt Trail Wide MTB delivers on performance, weight, and value. These sensibly priced wheels perform far beyond what their price might suggest. Starting with the rims, Hunt gives us the 30mm internal width and pinch flat resistance we desire from their H-lock bead system. The rims have laser-etched graphics over a work-hardened and shot-peened surface providing durability and great looks. The rims are laced with 28 triple-butted spokes that keep the weight down and give them a spry, energetic feel. The hubs are full of features, including a forged front hub and oversized 7000 series axles and Torque Caps if so desired. All of the options are available with their hubs, 142, boost, or super-boost spacing, HG, MicroSpline or Sram Xd freehubs, and 6-bolt or Centerlock rotor mounts. Engagement comes at 5 degrees thanks to a "RapidEngage" freehub that uses 3 sets of 2 pawls paired to a 36-tooth drive ring. The exterior of the freehub bodies are coated with a proprietary H_CERAMIK reinforced coating that prevents cassette damage. The wheels arrive with tubeless tape and valves installed and weigh in at just 1869 grams. 
The freehub engagement on these wheels is 5 degrees and while that isn't super impressive, it's beyond respectable at this price point and we didn't feel that it had a huge impact on their performance. The wheels could also feel a little flexy under load but that can also be interpreted as comfort and we were pleased with the balance of performance and compliance. Our minor concerns about these wheels didn't feel significant given their price and how durable they proved to be. If you're looking for a meaningful upgrade to your wheels without breaking the bank, Hunt offers a great place to start.

I've had very little problems with burping or certainly haven't peeled the tire off the rim and yeah I've been getting pretty rowdy with these. I mean I've basically treated them as hard as I'll treat any other wheel and had zero issues so I don't know what else can we say. Oh and yeah obviously they haven't got a lifetime warranty on them but if you do manage to ding them then Hunt will do you 35% off the replacement price which is pretty damn good considering how competitively priced they are already and there are now some shops selling direct as well

Hunt Trail Wide V2 mountain bike wheel review

 My name's Guy Kesteven. I've been a professional bike and kit tester for 25 years.

 The first thing I need to do is apologize for how long it's taken me to get round to doing this video

 because I know a load of people have been asking about it and I actually wrote them up for

 bikeperfect.com a while ago but here we are, my opinion, on Hunt's Trailwide V2 wheel sets and

 in short they're bloody brilliant for the money for the kind of aggressive modern trail riding

 that more of us seem to be more and more of us seem to be doing. So you can kind of go now and

 buy some if you need some surprisingly tough and really well supported fast reacting and responsive

 wheels. But you probably want a bit more detail than that so I'm going to go, I mean I did a full

 introduction unboxing for them but I'll quickly go over the essentials. Basically a reshaped 30

 mil rim. They spent three years redeveloping this wheel. I mean the first ones were a smash hit

 anyway but they just wanted to toughen it up slightly because people are going bigger, going

 harder and just generally giving their wheels a tougher time. So they have gained 80 grams in

 weight over the previous Trailwide so they're now 1880 grams but they're over 300 grams lighter

 still than the Hunt Enduro wheels which, there we go, but yeah those Enduro wheels are significantly

 heavier based and I'll be doing a review on them shortly. But they're still 30 mil internal. You've

 got triple butted conventional j-bend spokes so nice and easy to replace. If you do pop one you

 get replacement spokes with them. You get, I don't think I talked about this enough before,

 but you now get a really neat valve cap in there. I don't know if you can see that but it's got the

 little valve actually loosening tool built into the valve cap so that's a nice little feature on

 those. I know Paddy was very pleased when he came up with that idea. In terms of what they'll fit,

 pretty much anything to be honest. You can buy 29er 27.5 or they'll even mix it up as a mullet

 setup if you want and you can get QAR end caps right through to super boost end caps. I'm running

 a boost 29er setup and yeah I've been battering them a long time. My mate Ben's been battering

 them for even longer and he's a heavier kind of stronger rider than I am and literally zero

 problems. I mean I'm checking around them now and there's not even a ding on the rim at all. I

 actually dented the Enduro rims pretty quickly but this tougher rim seems to be really really

 working out on these. No not a clip on them and if I look at the rear one here yeah nothing obvious

 on there and you can see that's been a well used wheel. I mean there's a bit of tubeless spatter

 from where I've burst tires on them but even running relatively light sort of down country

 tires like these specialized ones rims have been absolutely rock solid. Bearings are still super

 smooth you've still got that really quick five degree engagement. If you look at the freehub

 so if you want to get them through your local shop then just ask. But in summary you know I've tested

 Mavic recently, I've tested DT Swiss, I've tested a whole bunch of other wheels including a lot of

 carbon wheels which are very very similar in weight to these and just they ride really nicely

 they've just got a really nice it's not too damped but it's not too stiff either it's quite a nice

 lively agile kind of they just feel great you know they're just a really real sweet spot all

 round rim that I've had zero issues with which when you consider the price is really really

 remarkable. So again absolutely top marks to Hunt on this setup and can't recommend them enough.
