And, as anyone who has bought this version of the fountain knows, there's a little "dock" at the bottom of the reservoir where the pump sits, so even if you go for a different make of pump, if you don't purchase exactly the right size and shape, it's not going to fit/work. So you either have to buy a whole new fountain for $20+ or a new pump for $28 every time the pump goes bad

 REVIEW UPDATE: I've only had less than a week and refilled this morning. Ran dry just this afternoon sometime and pump is already burnt out. Not being able to see through bowl to water level doesn't help, but if you buy this and have multiple dogs or even a couple big dogs, better buy a different pump at same time. I just bought one that can run dry for 48 hours to give you at least an hour to notice no water

 The problem is the charcoal filters. You really want these, especially if you have multiple pets. However, the filter needs to be a specific size and shape, and they absolutely gouge you on them. IF you can find the filters, they charge you upwards of $8-$10 PER FILTER, and they don't last terribly long, especially with multiple pets
