Very rugged watch that I wear pretty much every day for work and tracking daily activities like hiking, trail running, biking, etc. Great mix of activity tracking and smartwatch features without being annoying.

Who doesn't bring their phone?

Once on the Trail Between the Lakes (TBTL) in Texas where too many trees with trail markers had fallen. I had to use the GPS unit twice in a 3 day trip to get back on trail. Once on the Ouachita Trail a tree had fallen hiding a left turn on the trail. Unfortunately, a good social trail kept going in the direction we were headed, so it took us a while to figure out we were off trail.

Decent watch but I would not recommend it to anyone else. I purchased my first Garmin Instinct Tactical in early 2020. In ~2.5 years I've gone through two of them and each has had the same issue at the end of its life - it stops connecting to Bluetooth and GPS and the battery life becomes non-existe...

The new tactical version is lighter in weight & has thinner exterior design with higher resolution display, the menu system change is a plus. For the cons, I found a firmware crash in the 1st day of use, lost response on all buttons & strange frozen screen although it recovered by self after 20mins....

Running Watches without Touchscreens

Garmin Instinct for sure. I love that the screen is not color and that it’s not a touch screen. This watch reminds me a lot of the old Ironman watches since they can’t seem to make a decent GPS watch.
