I know that you said you have no affiliation to Firewalla....but I'll be damned if that doesn't read as if it was written by their PR department.

I now have the 753 as well, put a Firewalla Gold in front of it, changed the router to Access Point Mode, and have not looked back. Yes, I could definitely just use the Orbi router, but I wanted more control over the network (like being able to create groups of devices, turn stuff off at a certain time, etc. ), and the FWG solved all of those issues for me.

The Firewalla Gold gives me unprecedented insight into my network. Seriously, this thing is a complete game changer. I have absolute control over every device, the ability to create VLANS (one tied to each SSID) to ensure none of my stuff talks to each other and I can protect each VLAN differently (e.g. parents be kids vs guests).

TP Link deco works very very well and it’s not an Amazon company which is good.

If you’re worried about securing your QNAP NAS, I highly recommend buying a Firewalla Gold. It’s a router, firewall, intrusion prevention, intrusion detection, WireGuard/OpenVPN server/client, secure DNS, and ad blocking device, for starters, controlled by a slick phone app that lets you see and control all traffic. It doesn’t let anything through to your NAS without your explicit permission.

I'm getting tired of the issues with consumer-grade equipment. As an upgrade, I've preordered a Firewalla Gold Plus (advanced router with four 2.5Gbps ports), and I'd like to upgrade to a prosumer Wi-Fi access point. Happy to spend a bit more to get a good one. I'm currently living in a 980 square foot apartment but eventually I'll move into a 2500+ square foot house.

I went with a SoHo router called Firewalla Gold, a Unifi managed switch, and used my existing Orbi system in AP mode. I don’t have wireless segmentation but plan to add that in the future with some Unifi APs. Probably the Unifi 6 Mesh units.

Highly recommend getting a firewalla gold or purple. Very novice friendly but very powerful with VLANs, VPN server built in, docker support, etc. Also has the advantage of being spouse friendly. If you have zero experience with networking that is where you can start and have it grow with you for a long time.
