If you're looking for a more tactical/technical look and waterproofness etc, I'd probably say mission workshop transit arkiv (briefcase). Otherwise, maybe have a look at Filson Dryden briefcase ($195)?.

I use the filson Dryden briefcase but messenger bags can get uncomfy for me. I’m using my Timbuk2 backpack but I don’t like having to lift the flap to reach my keys, masks, etc. the Dryden briefcase has two zippered pockets in the front for easy access, and one in the back which is crazy helpful.

* Filson Dryden (This is what I'm most considering now, although I'm not completely sold on the heritage look, and hard to choose a color). * Waterfield Bolt Briefcase (kind of pricey, and kind of boring looks). * Bellroy Systems bag (don't really like its aesthetic, but seems very functional). * LL Bean Classic Cordura brief (good price, functional, but has plastic hardware?).

The strap for my bag (Filson Dryden) is nylon and slips off way too easily, and can kinda hurt when my bag is fully loaded. I sprung for a filson leather strap but I’m not a fan either, still didn’t do the job. My bags that have fabric straps never slip off, no matter how loaded the bag is. The reason why I don’t use those bags is because one has a limited space, and the other lacks a handle which makes a huge difference in daily use.

Filson also makes a duffel, but the brand is pricey so I’d focus on their classic briefcase. Fjallraven has a couple of options for duffels, and their G1000 fabric is great. Of course, there are also many other smaller, artisan brands out there, so budget is always an important consideration.
