The Sendero is a new harness from Edelrid that does a fantastic job blending comfort with lightweight construction, in a package that makes it an ideal fit for any style of climbing. We think so highly of it that we are happy to call it the best all-around harness. In particular, we like how light it is, even considering the adjustable leg loop buckles that ensure it fits properly while wearing any amount of clothing. We also dig the rigid flat gear loops that are easy to clip and durable, as well as the fifth loop in the back that ensures that we have plenty of room for all the essentials on a long climb. The two very low profile ice clipper slots don't interfere with the gear loops at all, which once again adds to the versatility. All of this comes at a pretty reasonable price.
While we have few complaints, one would be that the waist belt doesn't breath quite as well as some super light options, so you can still expect to get a little sweaty when climbing on the hottest days. We also don't find the leg loop design to be the absolute most comfortable for long belay sessions, but we didn't find its performance to be totally out of line with other top choices. While this harness isn't out top choice specifically for either sport or trad climbing, we think it does both better than any other option, at a lighter weight, which makes it an excellent all-around choice.

Almost perfect

 A ton lighter than my previous harness, very comfy for its weight and surprisingly versatile. It’s marketed as alpine harness but with me this harness has seen plenty of gym sessions, multi-pitch sport, single pitch crags. Comfortably clipped 12 quick-draws, 4 locking biners a prusik and a PAS. If you’re in the market for a lightweight harness look no further

 It fits well, but I liked the Sendero more. Might order it once its back in stock and let my friends that want to try climbing use the Jay III.

Comfortable and lightweight, lots of loops to place additional tools when I plan to transition from indoor sport to outdoor trad climbing. Great product at a very reasonable price. Solid construction. I would trust and choose this product long term and both as a beginner or advanced rock climber

I’ve been using this harness a ton over the last six months. It stays comfortable through all-day use and the 5 gear loops comfortably handle a load of draws for long pitches, or a full trad rack.

 When walking off it was again comfortable and unobtrussive – none of that ‘nappy’ feeling that some harnesses give when you transition from vertical to horizontal movement. It easily compressed to pack and dried out rapidly when back at the hut. A few more routes in a variety of unpleasant conditions in a sadly truncated winter season confirmed my first impressions. With the rather weird spring and summer that followed the Sendero was used for trad climbing in the Lakes and a bit of local sports climbing in the Dales

 If there was one slight tweak I’d like to see the two forward rack loops enlarged a little and the rear central loop reduced in size but that probably falls under the personal preferance catagory. Comfort wise the Sendero was as good as any harness I’ve used, both to move in and when on belay duty. When walking off it was again comfortable and unobtrussive – none of that ‘nappy’ feeling that some harnesses give when you transition from vertical to horizontal movement. It easily compressed to pack and dried out rapidly when back at the hut

 The Sendero is now set to become Edelrid’s top line standard adjustable leg-loop harness with the excellent Gambit being discontinued heading into 2021 – don’t worry the Gambit’s fixed leg sibling the Ace is still there in an improved and as ever bright green format (with a pink option for 2021). The Gambit has been my favourite go to harness for everything from Scottish mixed to alpine sports routes and really I can’t fault it so the Sendero had a lot to live up to. Aimed at the same users who may have previously purchased the Gambit the Sendero easily meets its predecessor’s standard and in some areas actually improves on it. Edelrid use a number of different construction techniques to create their harnesses with the Sendero using what is terms a ‘Soft Frame’ construction whereby two load bearing straps distribute the force over the entire width of the lightly padded waist band
