Induction cooktops and how well their temperature is calibrated is going to have an impact. Yours has settings from 1 to 15 in mine has settings from 1 to 10:00 so that's why I chose five on yours. If I chose five on mine I would end up burning my onions. They would cook too fast

So ive tried everything I can think of. I tried a lot of oil, i tried a little oil. I tried olive oil, i tried vegetable oil, i tried sunflower oil, i tried canola oil. I tried high heat, i tried low heat, i tried medium heat. I tried salting it, i tried not salting it. I tried cutting it thin, i tried cutting it into wide chunks, i tried cutting it every single way I can think of. I tried 5 different pans. I bought a stainless steel pan specificly for this! Its ma favoruite pan, i can sear and cook anything in it, i do pan sauces all the time since I got it, its lovely for literally EVERYTHING ELSE.

What the hell am I doing wrong? I use yellow onions. I use an induction stove top that goes from 1-15. I just tried preparing them again yesterday (probably my 300th attempt at this point), seared it on 10 to get some quick browning, and then i left it on 3. Three! After it settled down you could barely notice it was cooking at all. Still, it dries up, gets burnt around the edges and doesnt get caramelized in the centre of the slice. The pan isnt overcrowded, there is a single layer of onions. I dont stir it like crazy, I've tried leaving them alone anywhere from 15 minutes to a full hour. Still, same result.

Im at my wits end. Everyone just says "oh just leave it", and its just not working for me for some reason. I have never gottne those nice soft brown strips, its always black, white and all sorts of colors instead of being a nice homogenous brown piece of onion. 

I am not a beginner or a bad cook. Ive been regularly cooking at home for a few years now. Steak? No problem, just tell me the temp. Chicken breast? You cant get a moister breast than mine. Ramen that takes 3 days to make? Easy. Vegan chocolate chip cookies that taste like the real deal? Im your guy. But caramelize some onions? Nope, aparently im incapable of that.

 I also cannot trust it to maintain a gentle simmer.  When it comes to deep frying, I had high expectations with the incredible power delivery. Unfortunately, the cooktop topped out at an oil temp of about 375 degrees.  Finally, I was disappointed with the lack of evenness of the heat delivery

 4) After just 8 months I heard a huge bang from the kitchen and went in to see what could have made the noise. It sounded like something huge had fallen. I looked around and saw nothing that could have caused it, but the next time I went to use my cooktop I took off the dishtowel I cover it with and the glass had shattered. I contacted the company and sadly they do not have replacement glass for the cooktop so after such a short time I have no option but to throw the item away

 I don't think the oil and "stuff" that spews from the pot or pan is any more with these than on a normal cook top (that would all just depend on the food and temperature), but having to clean grease splatter off the long, thick, hard-to-straighten out, zig-zaggy electric cord, as well as the sides of these, then move them and clean off the surface of whatever you have it sitting on (we had them on our broken range), was simply too big a pain to me. It is no big deal if these are an occasional use thing. It would be like using any counter top appliance--of course you need to clean it all up and the counter and wall around it afterward. But I would not want to have to do this daily

 They heat up fast, are easy to use, easy to clean up, and are as efficient as was our GE induction range cook top. (We loved that range and are very sad that it died after less than 4 years of use.) Actually, they may even have heated up quicker than the GE range, and the settings definitely ran hotter than did our range burners. We have since bought a new induction range (an Electrolux), but are glad to have these as a supplement and a backup, and have stored them carefully for that purpose

Great, but too loud for me

 I've had mine for about 2 months so far, and all is working well, but will update if I run into any issues.  Product is used daily for coffee and tea water heating (Often 3 or more times/day) which is kinda normal for a home kitchen. I bought it to replace the self-heating kettles that I must have burned through 3 or 4 of in the last few years. This is far more versatile than those, heats water as fast or faster, and lets you use your own preferred kettle/pan VS having to use the one that came with your brand of electric tea kettle

 Note that if you keep your pan on the surface after powering off - the HOT light will stay on longer as the pan cools since it retains heat.  Dislikes - - Circumference of heating area is relatively small. Pan sizes must be selected accordingly. Will only heat in the area drawn within the white circle on the top of the product - could create hot spots if the pan were oversized as the center would heat and the edges remain cooler

Makes quick work of most pan heating tasks

 1) Clean the connector and resolder if its very corroded. 2) Fix any broken wires or pins on the connector 3) Check the resistance of the thermistor 4) Seal all the cracks and gaps with high temperature Kapton tape 5) Apply some silicon sealant on the underside of the board around the connector pins. 6) Seal around the edge of the connector to prevent fluids from getting between connector and board 7) Drill a small hole under the location where the connector is seated to allow any fluids to drain.  The key is to keep the liquids from entering into the unit

 They are standard XH-2P type contacts that are readily available. If the wire on the upper right corner breaks (near the red arrow), you will always get a "HOT" error flash and E2 error. Another thing to check is the thermistor. At 25C, the thermistor should read about 100K ohms on an ohmmeter

So if you're using a 12" nonstick or something where the base looks like it all fits in the circular decal on the cook top, it's frustrating to see only the center of the pan getting all the heat. It makes cooking up something like a bunch of fried eggs or potstickers a challenge.  Now to the plastic bevel that surrounds the top, which doesn't offer a good seal for boil overs and can melt or crack over time

Has some good uses.

 For my first use, it performed well, except for the boiling time. It did maintain the boiling once to temp. Easy to use. Easy to clean

 Easy to use. Easy to clean. Light weight and easy to move. As it turned out, having this as the 3rd large burner, helped a lot

Great Extra Cook Top

Seems ok

 The Duxtop is a nice design and easy to use, but Vollrath set the bar high. The main reason for only four stars is the edges of a large pancake or scrambled eggs are slow to cook. Boiling is excellent, but heat distribution is less than ideal for frying.
