Hi all- I don't understand why drone photography is so popular as you basically can't fly them anywhere. After I excitedly bought my DJI Mavic, I read online that drones can't be used near people, in cities, can't be used in national parks, can't be used within a certain distance of airports, commercial and private, and that operating in these zones would result in penalties. It's also bad practice to fly in residential neighborhoods as it's considered an invasion of privacy, and also bad to fly abroad without filing the appropriate paperwork with the local authorities first. I live in the SF Bay Area and, when using the B4UFLY app to check where I could fly, the answer was basically... nowhere.

Check out the DJI Mavic Mini fly more combo (comes with extra batteries). Its small and takes great video and pics for less than your 800 bucks.

They are great for roof inspections because you can fly 5 feet above the roof. Obviously there are exceptions, some have zoom, some have IR options, some have controllers that you can connect to an HDMI monitor and view in 4K but they’re quite expensive. It did wet my appetite for more, so I then bought a DJI Mavic Pro 2. Now this is a drone that is easy to fly - in 20mph gusts of wind, the drone and its gimbal remain completely stable, and it has various sensors to detect obstacles and prevent you from flying into them. It was expensive, but I have not in the least regretted it.

Barring having to deal with any DJI-imposed no-fly zones, I can have a Mavic 2 Pro up in the air within two minutes ... the Inspire 2 takes about 10 minutes. I would suggest any drone with a controller that has a built-in screen, like the DJI Air 2S, which supports the DJI Smart Controller. That is one fewer thing to get out, clamp into place, connect, etc.

Plenty of good options in that price range. Have a look at DJI Mavic 2 Pro, Autel Evo, Skydio. What ever takes your fancy.

Maybe a Mavic 3 soon as well.
