Selling at retailers for about a third the price of some of its competitors, the Costway 54 offers impressive performance. Though it's rated to -4ºF, we measured this unit reaching -8.9ºF. It also has impressive energy consumption statistics, with a pretty low power draw on a normal setting &#40;just 50 Watts&#41; AND an "Eco" mode to boot. The Costway is impressively large inside and has both an interior light as well as special cut-outs to accommodate tall bottles you're keeping "on ice" for your backyard shenanigans. The Costway's extra-long cords add range to its placement and are much more pleasant to move around, weighing significantly less than the rest of the compressor models in this review.
However, the Costway isn't known for its durability or longevity. Not only does this low-priced appliance not come with a warranty, and the internet is full of user complaints of many parts breaking, but the actual model we tested was cracked upon arrival and continued to crack during testing. It also gained nearly 28ºF during our 36-hour insulation test, the most of any cooler we reviewed. And don't plan on sleeping next to this cooler unless you enjoy falling asleep to the dulcet tones of a thrumming fan. But if you can look past these downsides &#40;we expect receiving a cracked model to be an anomaly&#41;, the Costway performs admirably compared to its much more expensive competitors.

Great at freezing, longevity???

Not real happy with this.

This fridge was purchased for a specific 4 day off-roading camping trip with the idea that we would be able to have better control over temps and not have to worry about ice melting and our food and drinks getting warm or things getting soggy. This fridge did a really great job. The 54 quart capacity gave us plenty of room. Like many others we also purchased the Smittybilt bag to add a little (very little) extra insulation but mainly to help keep the fridge from getting banged up

 Anyway..  My last complaint is that, even with an insulating cover on it, the frudge doesn't hold the temperature well. Even at night, if I leave it off for 20-30 minutes the temperature will go up about 10 degrees

I've been running this in my car for a few weeks now, and so far it's working pretty well. I'm going to start with a few complaints I have though:  First is that the temperature displayed if off. I bought two thermostats (one is digital and the other is not) and both read the same, which is a few degrees colder than what the unit says. For example, when the fridge says it's 35 degrees, they read at 30-32 usually

  My last complaint is that, even with an insulating cover on it, the frudge doesn't hold the temperature well.   What worked: To change the unit of measurement for temperature, press the "SET" button until "F" or "C" is displayed, then wait ~5sec for the setting to apply. The display will go back to the current temp when the unit of measurement for temperature is set.  To change the running mode to ECO or MAX, press the "SET" button until "ECO" or "HH" is displayed, then wait ~5sec for the setting to apply. The display will go back to the current temp when the mode is set

It arrived with all the parts in working order and cooled down to 32˚ using the AC adapter. It did seem to fluctuate between 27˚ and 35˚ for the two hours I left it plugged in.  The instructions for changing the unit of measurement for temperature and running mode were misleading, below are the provided instructions, then what I found to work for mine, there may have been a firmware update since previous posters noticed the same issue.  From the instructions: When you press the "SET" buttons, it switches the display between ˚C and ˚F
