I don't even take it out for scenery and what not because I have better results using my phone!. I am guessing this is an issue with light levels, aperture, and shutter speed. I've tried using the automatic "sport" mode as well as manually messing with the settings. Looking at a recent event, I typically couldn't go faster than 1/200, sometimes only 1/50 and that's with the widest aperture at 4.5mm.

In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing a Rebel T5i, an off-camera flash and a nifty fifty (50mm f/1.8) are all you need to make any smartphone photographer weep in despair. Wildlife - is highly specialized and notoriously expensive because you need lenses that look more like bazookas than camera lenses. There's no real way to do it inexpensively if quality is what you want.
