My ten year old son has generally been a pretty good kid, well behaved for the most part, doesn’t ask for too much and accepts no for an answer. I’ve always been pretty clear with boundaries - my nos have always meant no and because of this (I thought) he has generally been a non-whingey child who has been grateful for what he has and doesn’t go on or have tantrums if he doesn’t get something he wants / his way. And then Christmas just gone he got a PlayStation and it’s like it’s turned him around completely. He’s 10 but I’ve allowed him to play 12s games like Fortnite and his Dad got him one 16s game but actually he doesn’t have any interest in it. (I checked the game on common sense media and it’s not the worst but I wouldn’t have got it for him myself).  He simply will not stop asking to play Call of Duty. He literally asks me every day when he can get it, why can’t he get it etc etc. I am getting so frustrated with him because it’s relentless. I feel like I have done everything to explain to him why he can’t have it - I have explained age ratings, I have shown him reviews that explicitly state it’s not a suitable game for children, he has spoken to my boyfriend who has played the game who has told him it’s not suitable, his Dad is on the exact same page as me, none of his friends play it, I have expressed in a calm way the frustration he’s making me feel when he keeps asking for something when he knows the answer is no but while in these moments he says he’ll stop he persists. This evening I totally lost it with him and began shouting at him which I don’t feel great about as I aim to take a calmer and gentler approach but I just can’t take it anymore. He then got really upset but I feel like he nearly has to feel this way so he’ll stop asking me. I’ve told him that if he continues to ask for games he knows he’s not allowed play he’ll lose his time to play on his PlayStation for a whole day. I guess I’m just confused as to why he keeps asking for something when he knows the answer is no.
