Considering the Smart Oven Air's impressive resume, toast may seem like an afterthought, but the final product is excellent. 
The only real downsides to the Smart Oven Air are its price and size. The extra features push the price well above that of most competitors, and the large footprint can make it feel like a bit of a space-hog on smaller countertops. If you take advantage of all the Smart Oven Air has to offer and have some spare counter space, it's worth considering.

 (4) Just my personal opinion, but the rack level designations on the face of the window detracts from the attractiveness of the unit. Possibly more to come after I become more familiar with the operation.

 Not so. You have to figure out, on your own, that you need to use the "broil" mode for that step. How hard would it have been to simply state the mode to "select"? (3) the air fry basket has some usage verbiage on it, but it's not in English and is unreadable. It's not a big deal but shows sloppy merchandising

I just received the Joule Oven. I initially noticed some design mistakes: (1) the "confirm" button should have been labeled "selector". It allows the operator to "select" different modes of operation. (2) The suggested cooking collections are helpful, but the preparation description fails to tell the operator what "mode" to select

 In addition, there are no new functions in comparison to the pro air oven. Does it give the same awesome results?? YES  but in no way is what I expected of Breville in this time and age. I also expected a slightly bigger oven with a scratch prove/resistant exterior. The recipes that you can cook with the Joule feature are the ones provided, not the ones you might necessarily want to make a so that really sucks

2) It does seem to take a very long time to preheat..why?  Other than those items, the food that I do use it for (and I am using it just about every day) comes out juicy and delicious.  I would certainly recommend this over other ovens

THIS APPLIANCE WILL NOT TOAST BREAD. After complaining about this I was sent a new unit and I returned the original. Same problem. Even on level 7 (highest), wheat bread will not brown in over 8 minutes

Hard to rate this newer technology since we are still at baby steps in using it, but it has already overachieved every reason we have purchased it.  Our old Breville Oven Pro was passed down to our daughter in order for us to take advantage of the recipes from app to table in this unit.  It does all the old unit did, but better and we are using it to bake, air fry and broil, a feat we didn't try with the older unit.  I love monitoring with my iWatch and the ability to start Joule with Alexa and allow it to preheat
