Little one woke up with a pretty nasty rash this morning. I've bathed her and now she's playing diaper free. Anyone got any suggestions that don't include things like essential oils or potatoes or whatever?

<div class="md"><p>UPDATE: The easiest stuff for me to find in my rural little town was the aquaphor ointment and the red butt paste. So I put so much of both of those on her little butt that at times I wondered if it was too much. She got an extra bath after she pooped instead of getting wiped. And I put her in overnight diapers for bedtime. This morning her rash looks much better. It&#39;s still there but it&#39;s not angry anymore. She got a corn starch powder and she&#39;s playing diaper free right now. So I think she&#39;s on the mend. Thank you all for your advice. I&#39;ll definitely look back here if she&#39;s ever got a stubborn rash. Y&#39;all are great. </p>

Too runny

 You need a healing cream, and then a barrier cream. Using just a barrier isn’t going to help right now.

My son is a month old and has had his diaper rash since he was 2 weeks old. There's two sections that are completely raw but not bleeding. The pediatrician thought it might have been a yeast infection and gave us Viaderm RC which made the problem worse.

We ended up taking him to the hospital after hours and they suggested we stop the Viaderm.

We've tried penaten, desitin, Zincofax, Vaseline, and if any of them are helping its really hard to tell. My son poops nearly every feed and we've resorted to carrying him to the sink instead of using wipes. Then we use a hair dryer to get it as dry as possible. After that, we tried any one of the barrier creams. The issue is that none of them stick to the raw skin and by the time we change him in 3 hours, all the barrier cream seems to have absorbed into the diaper. It looks like we didn't apply anything as all.

I've resorted to putting an absurd amount of desitin and hoping for the best, but did anyone have anything I haven't tried that might work. Anyone been in a similar situation?

Looking for advice on persistent diaper rash

So I think it’s really depends what is causing a rash because if it’s yeast then this made it way worse.

I don't have kids, but I heard quite a ways back that diapers are almost universally a "safe" gift for when you're going to a baby shower, are expected to bring something, and don't really know the people well enough.

The rationale I heard was that stores are almost always happy to exchange sizes / brands / etc. on those, even without a receipt. And even parents that use reusable diapers (which this person almost certainly isn't) frequently have some store-bought diapers hanging around for emergencies.

Does that advice still hold?
