Today we've got a Black Crows Kamex Birdie. This is the ladies version of the men's Kamex.

recently purchased the women's Black Crows Captis Birdie in 157cm. I am an intermediate skiier, but looking to push myself towards more advanced terrain in Colorado. Even though based on all the online calculators the 157s were a bit long for my skill level, I thought given the rocker tips it probably put them right around the right length. But now I'm second guessing myself and wondering if I should've gone with the 149cms.

Confused About Ski Length & Is This Ski Ok For What I Need?

I would look at slightly wider skis, they will be easier and more fun in whatever weird three dimensional snow that you might encounter while touring. The Blizzard Sheeva 9 comes in a 146 or a 157 and would be okay for both up and down but It might be on the heavy side. The Black Crows Camox birdie might be a touch lighter and just as fun.

Intermediate Skiier, 6’3 250lbs, looking to buy a new all-mountain ski. Thinking 184-186 length, 88-92 Waist. Some options below, any thoughts / advice?

I'm a little shorter but similar skill/weight. I went with the Black Crows Camox just now. I don't have much help - as I haven't skied them yet. Research says they are great for all-mountain use (I'm in the PNW Cascades).

Which ski size is right for me?

The Camox Birdie is a heavily cambered ski which would probably work better on the shorter side since the effective edge on the snow would be longer than a heavily rockered ski. Also the mount point can significantly affect how a ski rides and what size you should get. The closer you mount a ski to true center, the longer a ski you can get and still be able to control it. Also this ski is a 97mm underfoot and is probably not ideal for pow especially if you get a short one.

Black Crows Camox for the past two years. Been considering the Atris for a long time, might get a pair this season!

I’d probably ski it just about every day, but being 115 underfoot, they tend to be quite a bit of work in really firm conditions. The Camox is really good in consistent snow and when skied with consistent arced turns, but when things get variable and or steeper and tighter, I find that the tails tend to feel hooky unless I’m really focused on keeping my weight forward and off the tails when pivoting the skis (even with a pretty aggressive detune).

Width for Colorado all-mountain ski

My Black Crows Camox were damn awesome in the 1-1.5 foot deep fresh powder at Revelstoke when i was there, albeit real powder skis would have probably blown my mind. You have to work a little harder in the powder than with a real pow ski, but it was still stupid fun, went first to last run two days in a row.
