Most pre-spooled combos have some low-quality line on them. You can pull that out 10 yards or so reel it in with nothing on it and it will probably be fine. But you're better off purchasing new line. You don't have to get anything fancy; a $10 spool of Berkley trilene XL will treat you well.

For mono I love Berkley Trilene XL. I am trying Berkley Sensation this year and so far I like it. But Trilene XL has been my go to since the 90s. Im also pretty happy with Berkley Big Game for leader.
