Not a beginner's console

Hi all,
 
Lately I’ve been wondering how can I implement my plugin / DAW workflow into live sound. 

My background in audio is mostly making beats, recording and mixing rappers (and lots of other things but I’d say those would be the things I’m best at) - I’m super fast and comfortable in ableton and I was wondering what’s the closest thing to it in live sound.

I know of the waves soundgrid, which to my understanding allows you to use waves plugins on digital desks? Would there be something that kind of allows you to use the desk as an audio interface?

Only thing that comes to my mind for mixing in a DAW is having an audio interface, running the individual channels of the desk into your interface and then outputting the processed channels to the desk. 

Please share anything you think might be relevant, I’m relatively new to live sound so I’m trying to learn all of the industry-standard and latest technologies.

Edit: I understand what you guys are saying about mastering the basics, but my question is just if there’s such a technology out there. My laptop wouldn’t be able to handle it anyway (at least not with decent latency) - so all I’m trying to do is be informed about it cause it’s genuinely interesting

Plugins / systems for mixing FOH?

I think much of this is the higher quality effects. Having things like multiband compressors and pitch correction built in really makes it nice. The board takes a little bit of learning, but now that it is configured we can easily train a volunteer with sound background how to run the basics in 10 minutes.

We have used an X32 for several years and recently upgraded to the Wing 48. I was amazed at how much better things sounded with this board. I didn't understand when people mentioned the harshness of the X32, but now I get it. The sound is much smoother

Hi everyone, I'm a audio engineering student currently on my second year of studies. I am currently looking to upgrade my home recording setup a bit and i know what i want to achieve with it but i do not know which produicts i need in order to do so.  


My current setup:

So right now im using a pretty basic setup, i record vocals, bass, guitarr, synth and my drum machine/sampler all going through my Yamaha mg12 mixer. The mixer stereo out is going into my Focusrite 2i4. This works (kind off..), it lets me keep everything set up and avoid having to reroute every instrument before recording it. It also lets me do some small changes to EQ, Gain and compression on the way in, the mixer even has some effects which i use some times while recording. However i can't multitrack record since everything goes from the mixer to the focusrite as stereo. I also cannot use my mixer on the way out and send audio from my DAW to hardware processing.  For my DAW i use Reaper. I have been recording on tape previously and i guess my workflow is somewhat tainted of the tape process (i kinda like it but also not, you get what i mean).  


What i'm looking for: 

So what i really want is the possibility to record through the mixer (as i'm currently doing) but to also be able to send audio from my daw to my mixer (mostly to use aux channels on the mixer for effects etc. I dont need it to be fully integrated to where i can adjust the (for example) volume and panning in my daw. Multitrack recording would be a huge bonus but it is not a dealbreaker since i'm currently used to doing overdubbs and just recording everything one by one.   


What i have been looking at so far: 

i've been looking at the interface/hybrid mixers such as the tascam model 12, the korg hybrid, and the soundcraft signature. i've also thought about just getting a serious big boy interface and then use a seperate mixer for in/out from the interface.

Looking for the optimal home setup with mixer and interface!

This mixer has a lot of growing to do. My first thought it would work seamless with the DAWS that i used. Not even close. The back of this unit does not have enough physical ins and outs to support a small studio

 This board is made for live recording not for a recording studio. Programming and setup is a pain in the azz. This mixer is just years behind others including the Behringer's previous mixer that the Wing replaced. This mixer is very disappointing for the total cost of $3,449

DO YOUR RESEARCH THIS MIXER SUCKS

 You can expand the input to over 350 inputs with additional hardware. The motorized faders are one of my favorite features, great board for mixing editing your projects. Make sure to continue to update the firmware it gets better with new features.
