 That the smell is equal to this for about one-tenth of the price. I don't encourage you to wear this one instead of this because you feel different if you wear a Rolex replica watch. If you are not wearing the Chanel handbag but a fake Chanel handbag, you yourself know if you're wearing a fake or not. So I don't encourage people to wear clone fragrances but be aware before spending the $300 there are cheap alternatives to Baccarat Rouge

 Buy the eau de parfum over the extract de parfum. Don't buy this one. Don't buy the extract de parfum. It's more expensive

 So they extract from the sugarcane. It technically is a synthetic molecule but it's still 20 times more expensive than natural essential oil of cedarwood. So it's not bad if a fragrance has less natural ingredients. So whenever you go into a department store and they try to sell you, they have a lot of natural ingredients, good for you

 She is rich, she's wealthy, which means she's successful, which means I should be friends with her because she's doing something right in life. Or some people could say, yeah, I don't want to smell like everybody else because this is very popular amongst people that are getting into the niche connoisseur type of a fragrance world. So be aware of it. It's extremely popular

It has the thing with BR540 that I think is what people dislike about it where you smell it up close and the antiseptic/bandaid smell is very prominent, from my limited knowledge I'm guessing that's the saffron and ambroxan but I really don't know. I love it because it's strangely alluring, many cannot stand it.

 This perfume sample smells like what the woman at the airport was wearing, but something smells a little off. Like rubbing alcohol or something like that. Kinda bummed that it might not be as authentic as the real fragrance. Especially spending almost $40 on a teeny tiny sample

My lower star review is not because of the scent itself, I think it would be unfair to overall rate this purely on the scent, because we all have different preferences. For example, I cannot stand Chanel 5 - but I would never give a poor review on it just because I don't like the scent. My lower rated review is simply because the longevity of the scent seems to dissipate rather quickly from this very pricey $30 sample. However, I do very much enjoy the smell of this perfume

Scent didn't last

 To me, as a fragrance reviewer, as a fragrance critique, I see fragrances as an artistic object and not only as a usage type of an object, alright? So, this mainly is molecule based. So, you get a lot of these molecules like you know them from Molecule 01, like you know them from Juliet has a gun, this is not a perfume. So, you won't get a natural cedar wood, some type of bergamot, some type of citrus stuff. You will get some transparent molecule smelling fragrance that is brutally long lasting

 This guy is a master perfumer. He has created one of the most selling men's fragrances on the market, which is Jean Paul Gaultier Le Mal. He was so successful he created his own line and ever since then he has released top sellers just like this one. So, this one is a molecule fragrances, alright? It's mostly synthetic, mostly molecule based

 This thing creates a coat of transparent molecule stuff around you which is very inoffensive yet present. Alright, pretty cool. It is again for the people that want to be a bit different because this does not smell like many fragrances. It is for the people that don't want to offend other people yet want to be smelled and it is for the people that don't want to think too much about fragrances since this is very versatile

Maison Francis Kurkdjian - Baccarat Rouge 540

A little while ago, I made a post asking for help in asserting wether a second-hand bottle of MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait that I was eyeing was genuine or not, which I soon deleted -- a little shamefully -- when I received the bottle and it turned out to be fake. 

After reading the <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/fragrance/comments/mqgj89/course_corrections_to_rfragrance_content/">course corrections</a> to come in May though, I figured I would share the story, so other potential first time BR540 Extrait buyers looking for good deals might be able to avoid making a regrettable purchase. If it seems to good to be true, then it is! 

You can see photos of the bottle on the day that I received it <a href="https://imgur.com/a/Jsk7VSU">here</a>. While I do not have photos of a genuine bottle at my disposal other than the picture from fragrantica, I shall try and explain each element as precisely as possible.

I shall start by saying that the man I bought it from had no idea it was fake (or so he said). He had used the bottle for around a year, and his girlfriend had bought him a new one as a birthday gift. Therefore, he was selling his old bottle, heavily discounted (170€), as he did not need two. It felt like a pretty safe offer, seeing as he had used it quite a bit and I figured he would probably have done his own research since he was a fragrance enthusiast himself. 

Because of this, I was not as thorough in my questions to the seller as I would have been normally, and I strongly advise --even though you should already know that-- you ask your seller photos of the bottle at every angle and of the atomizer, and that they provide you with a reference to the place they bought it from (when buying second-hand) and proof of purchase (which in my case would have spared me the whole thing, as he had bought it off a suspicious account on the same platform and I would not have taken that risk, had I known about it beforehand.)

I visited the MFK store in Paris right after I retrieved my package, because although the smell was close to the sample I had, it seemed a little off, and did not last at all. The staff there helped me authentify it, although they do not usually provide this sort of help.

For reference, some elements that are often present on fake BR540 bottles and that have been discussed previously on this subreddit and other forums are:

<ul>
<li>The &quot;j&quot; in Kurkdjian curving upwards. The &quot;j&quot; on real bottles -and some fakes, such as the one I got-- is almost straight in comparison.</li>
<li>&quot;18207&quot; batch code.</li>
<li>Non-flared atomizers, which can be observed by popping off the atomizer cap. </li>
<li>Black atomizer ring. It should be white (I am referring to the part of the atomizer from which the fragrance is sprayed out.)</li>
<li>Thicker font. The font used on <a href="https://imgur.com/a/hQ00LEs">genuine bottles</a> is quite thin, as if handwritten with a fine-tipped quill. (My bottle had the thick font, but it was hard to tell on the seller&#39;s photos.)</li>
</ul>

To that can be added the following elements which were present on the bottle I received and that the store employees helped me identify in comparison to a real bottle (they thought the fake was very well done, if that is worth anything): 

<ul>
<li>Lack of a QR code on the underside of the box. Apparently, all boxes with a batch code starting in &quot;19xxx&quot; (mine was 19072&quot;) and over, ought to have a QR code printed on the box right above the barcode. If the bottle you have your eyes on has an 19xxx batch code and no QR code, then it is most likely fake. </li>
<li>Muddy &quot;flamable&quot; icon on the tag under the bottle. The icon is that of a small flame, with a clear center that spikes outwards. The spikes should be well defined, whereas the ones on the fake are barely discernable.</li>
<li>Grainy cap center. The center of the cap where the two mirroring &quot;K&quot;s face each other should be completely smooth like the rest of the cap. If there is grain or texture, it is a fake.</li>
</ul>

The seller agreed to refund me without any problems in the end, and I barely lost any money, but I know it&#39;s not always possible and I got lucky.

I feel like it might be better to stick to retail when it comes to buying high-end fragrance, and I think the experience has put me off buying second-hand contemporary perfume in the future. Besides, purchasing directly from the MFK physical or online store is, considering their incredible customer service, much more gratifying than the stomach-upsetting uncertainty of not knowing wether you have been scammed or not.

Funny thing is, I have realized I do not really care that much for BR540 after all :)

BR540 Extrait: Purchase of a second-hand fake bottle.

I bought it after reading many many reviews telling that this perfume is the best fragrance in the world and they get a lot of compliments when they wear the perfume. My experience after wearing the perfume is that the fragrance is long-lasting but I don't like the smell.

 98% close. That's crazy. So literally, if I want, I could buy the Baccarat bottle in V and fill it up with the Alt Fragrance bottle because that's how close it is. Ridiculous

 And it is Mancera's Instant Crush. Now this one, I prefer this better than Baccarat Rouge 540. Why do I say that? Because it has that Baccarat vibe but it's taken on a different level. Now if Baccarat smelled like this when I smelled Baccarat, the beginning, I honestly would have preferred this one more than Baccarat
