Arc'teryx Phase AR

Although I don’t mind Rho LT leggings in colder conditions the upper body layers I would rather add thicker layers elsewhere and stick with the Phase AR. Apparently in response to this hole in their baselayer lineup Arc’teryx recategorized the Motus AR to their baselayer section.

I wear this top climbing, mountaineering, cycling - anything where I may break a sweat.

The fit is perfect. It feels like its shaped to your body and unlike other base layers it doesn't seem like its designed for bodybuilders or Ethiopian marathon runners, its a fit for normal athletic people. The ...

They weren't fluffy either on the inside or outside. They weren't soft. If they were warm, I can't say, because it's hot outside and I can't try them out before sending them back to the stores. Anyway, tried: Arc'teryx Phase AR, Under Armour Featherweight Fleece, one Amazon pair of unknown origin.

I knew it wasn’t going to be next to skin, but it was just ridiculously large in size S. I laid the shirt flat on a table and put my old Phase AR (also size S) on top of it and Motus was 5cm wider from both sides. It was like a wingsuit on me. The bottoms were also a terrible fit…super tight from the legs and very wide from the thighs and the waist was very loose and it stretchy.

I have used this now during all four seasons and it has performed well in each. It is a really sharp looking piece and it breathes really well. They will fit under a shell just fine since they are next-to-skin.Whether they offer the right level of warmth, depends in what weather and climate you plan to use them in and what activity you plan to use them for. I rarely use them and prefer the old Phase AR when I need to use a base layer bottom under a shell or use the Phase AR and bring along an Atom LT pant which I can throw on if needed. There are exceptions - e.g.

I use the zip top because the zip makes it a lot more versatile for regulating body temperatures but there's t-shirt too.I have used it for anything between 10° to low 40°s Celsius!I wouldn't call it a base layer!. Below 10° I use the Phase SL and close to 0° C I start using the Phase AR - though it depends on the activity!. For really hot weather the Velox would also be an option but don't think it works well in cool or cold temperatures .
