I have been using a set of Wahl Clippers from Walmart to groom my dogs. (2 Schnoodles) Not being a professional groomer, I figured I would start with them and work my way up after I got some experience cutting their hair. After giving each of them about 5 haircuts, I starting getting much better at it, and decided I would upgrade my clippers to see if I could improve the experience.  I purchased the these clippers with high expectations after reading other online reviews

  For the pet owner that wants to groom their own dog, I would recommend either one. Both are very capable of getting the job done. If I buy another pair, I would explorer a little higher end set of Andis Clippers just to be able to compare them to my others, and see if spending more money really makes a difference when it comes to clippers.

First, to tell you I am a rookie and this was my first grooming project on my (matted) toy poodle. I have reviewed and researched many clippers. I found Andis to be suitable and up to the job and because it came with a 10 blade; i brought a 5fc and a 7fc for future grooming - am a rookie. 1

 So, I had to send it back. Bummed.  My inherited maltipoo has insanely thick hair-like fur. (I actually feel very sorry for her cause no dog should grow THIS much fur) I wanted to save money and stay safer from Covid by grooming her at home

 I took one look at the plastic clipper guards and tossed them in the garbage without even taking them out of their plastic wrapping. My experience from my previous clipper that included these plastic guards was that they are completely useless for cutting my dogs hair. Why pet clippers keep coming with these things leaves me completely baffled. They are only useful for certain type of dog hair and really, anyone who is trying to give a dog show cut to their pet should have dedicated blades for that purpose

 But I could tell I needed a blade that cuts a bit finer around the feet, legs, and under-body. The blade also did get pretty hot and I had to make several stops to spray the blade down with cool lube and a touch-up on oil. But the fact that Andis clipper is a detachable blade clipper means that it is intended for you to have multiple blades on hand for just these various issues I ran into. Before my next grooming session I'm definitely going to buy another blade

 The average person with the average dog just needs to go in there and cut the dogs hair for health and comfort. The dog doesn't care what he/she looks like. For that job the bare metal clipper blade is all you need. It actually hurts the reviews of the product when you see people not knowing any better trying to use the plastic guards, only to discover that it makes it impossible to cut the dogs hair

 But the fact that Andis clipper is a detachable blade clipper means that it is intended for you to have multiple blades on hand for just these various issues I ran into. Before my next grooming session I'm definitely going to buy another blade. Reading some of the other reviews it sounds like a #30 is a good second blade to have the type of hair my Lhasa Apso has. That way I can swap out blades as one gets hot and just switch out areas of the body I'm working on

Pretty darn good dog clipper!

 The blades are metal rubbing on metal, they’re going to heat up with continuous use. Especially if you’re a dog owner with little to no experience (because a lack of experience will have you moving a little slower than an 8 year long professional). If you’re worried about having to pause to allow the blades to cool, buy a spray coolant from just about any pet store, or a cooling stone. And ALWAYS make sure the clippers are properly oiled

 A) because I’m just starting out, and B) because they were the best I could afford right now. If I was just using these at home they’d get 5 stars for sure.  If you want to use these for professional grooming, accept the fact that you will have to upgrade in a few months to a more groomer friendly pair. The blades are inter changeable, but difficult to change out

  If you’re a pet owner looking to groom your dog these are perfect. If you’re a groomer just starting out or strapped for cash, these are a good option until you can afford a better set.  As for how long they last, it’s hard to say. Time will tell

 These clippers are a single speed, meaning with thicker and/or more difficult coats (finer hair) you’ll have to go much slower. And if they’re still not cutting properly, you need clippers with more than one speed. Meaning you’ll have to spend more money. More difficult coats require either more time, or more professional equipment

  If you want to use these for professional grooming, accept the fact that you will have to upgrade in a few months to a more groomer friendly pair. The blades are inter changeable, but difficult to change out. Most pro clippers have a button you press and the blades pop right off. With these you must force them off (carefully so they don’t break or cut you), then slide in the new blade and turn the clippers on before locking it into place (also carefully so as not to cut yourself)

Not the best, but good enough.
