AmpliTube 5

I’ve got an iRig HD 2 that I’ve used for a couple years now with Amplitube and Bias FX on my iPad. It does the job for demos and recording ideas.

IK Multimedia has a bundle for $400 right now. Axe I/O interface and their amp sim software Amplitube 5. Way more gear in that package than you'll even know what to do with.

What you should do is try using the demo version of Amplitube 5, because in terms of free plugins, the demo version of that has the most options of any of the unlimited demos; in other words, if you want to use something free, it gives you the most amps and effects of all the ones that aren't time limited. But I'd encourage you to get the demos of different Neural DSPs and try them; the demos last for 14 days. People will tell you to get Bias FX 2 because its cheap, I tried the demo and I honestly think it was the least realistic-sounding and the hardest to mix properly; even Guitar Rig 6 sounded better in mixes. If you were gonna spend the 110 to get BIAS FX, just spend the extra 40 to get the Amplitube deal that's going on now.

I've been using Amplitube 5 with a pair of Adam Audio T7Vs (focusrite scarlet 4i4 interface), and I'm very happy with how it sounds.

I work from home, and I use an axe i/o to my PC via Reaper and Amplitube 4/5 for everything else. That with ezdrummer 2 and a cheap travel Ibanez bass off Amazon, I literally have the ability to make full instrumental songs that sound great at my finger tips. I have monitors, but I rarely use them as I need to keep quiet in my house.

It makes for a bigger sound than one track can make, but on a 1:1 comparison, it can be close. One of the amps I use is a Princeton Reverb, which is a model available in Amplitube 5.

I think AmpliTube 5 is really good, tbh. But you need to remember that with amp sims and modelers, they do a very good job of replicating a mic’d up amp and cabinet. Not so much at replicating the sound of the amp in the same room you are in.

It’s a little expensive, but I highly recommend an Axe I/O audio interface. It is zero latency and comes with Amplitube which lets you recreate basically any tone you want. Plus the software by itself is 400 bucks so the interface is basically free.

I'm using AXE I/O with Amplitube 5 MAX with iLoud Micro Monitors, it's a very good setup but I only use it for recording and midnight practice. If it's practicing and playing I always go amp because the nuances of your technique are a lot more evident. If it's bass no question asked, it has to be an amp coz small speakers just doesn't deliver the vibe and feel, same goes for guitar but less negative impact.
