A bit less HT, but opens many savings (no centre to buy, and decent stereo amps are cheaper than the AVR you hunted). Of course, then you'd need to change up if you ever wanted to add surrounds / centre, but I mention it as an option. A DAC / amp combo like the Aiyima D03 or Loxjie A30 (both around 200-250 AUD) would give you optical input, and the Loxjie has a headphone amplifier too (if that's relevant for late night listening).

I like the product overall. But I have noticed the BT connection would drop briefly cause skipping even with the phone 5ft away. I've tried 2 different Samsung phones where the S8 was the worst and the S10 slightly better. Still happened with a different antenna. I may have to return it although it ...

Something like the Aiyima D03 can take an optical feed from your TV and give you plenty of sound for a basic setup. It has a remote, so needing to use a different volume control is manageable. Around $140-150 US too.

My remote stopped working after 3 months. I tried contacting Aiyima customer support, but absolutely ZERO response after several attempts. The sound quality and performance is very nice. It's not a cheap disposable little amplifier, which makes the lack of support very disappointing!!!

Forget about getting tubes at this price range.

Small compact but does not drive speakers well vs full size Yamaha receiver with way less rated power . Ok for garage or back porch bar . For what you pay it does a good job though . But not for the critical listeners.

Or you could look at the Aiyima D03 and D05 desktop amp/dac combos - both include sub-woofer outputs too, and multiple digital input options. Cheapaudioman just reviewed the D03 last week. ($160).
