Known for their excellent PFDs and other river-oriented products, Astral has created a flop that will never float downstream. The Filipe is a flip flop/sandal hybrid that allows you to stretch the bounds of what your summer shoe can do for you with the help of some extra straps that tightly secure them to your feet. While many options offer excellent traction, they can only get you so far when your feet are wet or sweaty. The Filipe's supplemental strap locks your foot down better than many dedicated sandals we've worn, allowing full confidence when spending the day on your SUP or hiking to the crag. Clip these to your harness, and you've got some of the lightest pair of "approach shoes" out there.
Though the versatility of the Filipe kind of means you get two pairs of shoes in one, keep in mind that these aren't a cheap choice. Some of our testers also found the extra strap to be annoying when not in use, and there's always the risk of losing if you are a bit scattered. That said, having the option to transform from a casual flip flop to a secure river-going option is quite handy, and if you don't want to use the straps &#40;but would prefer not to deal with unthreading and removing them&#41;, you can always just push them forward over the top of your foot.

The Sanuk Yoga Mat is a fun twist on a simple flip. This shoe is made from yoga mat material and is soft, squishy, and forms to the foot like memory foam with every step. While it does not have much in the way of arch support or any footbed contouring, the general squishiness of the footbed provides comfort and some stability. The wide straps are made of synthetic leather lined with a silky feeling jersey material. They are soft and malleable, ensuring that you will be left without a blister in sight. The nicely stitched strap gives this flip a casual yet put-together look, making it a great accessory to any casual warm-weather outfit. 
Because the Yoga Mat is flat and lacks any footbed contouring, there is zero arch support. The footbed traction is surprisingly good, but the outsole traction is subpar. The general support this shoe offers works just fine for flat, easy terrain, but as soon as things get technical, it's rendered less functional. The Yoga Mat is meant for casual use. If you are looking for something to throw in your gym bag, backpacking pack, or stroll down to the beach, then this is a great option at a killer price.

The OluKai Ohana flopped its way into our hearts by being one of the most comfortable flips we have ever tested. Not only does it hug your foot like a sea glass slipper, but it held up well despite our rigorous testing due to its heft and durability. Rather than deteriorating with wear, the Ohana conformed to our feet and continued to perform with style. With enough grip to keep you solidly on your feet, a comfortable footbed to provide support, and a wide range of colors and patterns, you really can't go wrong.
The Ohana is certainly not inexpensive. It's not the most expensive from OluKai, but it might be more difficult for some to fork out the big bucks for casual footwear. Additionally, the use of dense and durable materials makes this one of the heaviest flip flops we tested. That said, if you're looking for a stellar combination of comfort, support, and traction without sacrificing style, this shoe is more than worth its price tag.
