The double pedestals on this table make it easier to seat guests (up to eight) than would legs at the corners. Although the top is veneer, the table we saw showed no chipping or scratches.

This model has a design similar to that of the Crate and Barrel Origami table, but it’s about a quarter of the price. It’s not as long, and the rubberwood top may scratch more, but overall we think it’s a good value.

The best dining tables

This is the best solid-wood table we’ve found (that also comes with Prime shipping) for around $250. It’s sturdy and reasonably durable. Modern chairs would help tone down the country look.

This is the nicest-looking and most functional drop-leaf table we’ve found. It works well as a console when closed and seats up to six when open.
