 This is not a pack I would suggest for any beginner or newbie to get their hands on because there's so much to it to figure out. and if you're just learning how to backpack, this is probably not the pack for you. But if you're somebody who does a lot of four and five day trips, or you're somebody who does a lot of through hiking on some longer trails, this is a fantastic pack. You can load it down with a ton of gear and it carries extremely well

 These are 399 dollars, but you're spending money on an investment. Like I said, this pack can last you a long time because of the fact that you can change out the hip belt and because of all the adjustments that you can make on the backpack. This is not a pack I would suggest for any beginner or newbie to get their hands on because there's so much to it to figure out. and if you're just learning how to backpack, this is probably not the pack for you

 Make sure that you spend a lot of time as much time as you possibly can in the pack with it. Full load it down because it might fit frying. It might fit great without any weight in it or very little weight in it. but once you get all your stuff in there and you're hiking up the trail, it might be uncomfortable, so make sure you try it on full weight

I really like where this actually sits on me and I like how easy it is to adjust this sternum strap. Sometimes backpacks have really difficult to adjust sternum straps.  Here On the bottom, giving the sleeping bag compartment dedicated access point. To me, that's just a no-brainer I really like having the ability to immediately get at my sleeping bag through a bottom sort of access point. Now, there is a curved zipper here. curved zippers can tend to fail after, say, years of stress, but uh, at the same time it's It's not why I wouldn't I wouldn't buy a backpack over that

 so I have some thoughts. so let's get a little more casual here and take the pack off. And uh, let's break it down. Oh, you just love hiking

So one key feature with this bag is that they use a polygene stay Fresh technology and this inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria and allows you to not need to wash your bag as often. The bag is also made with recycled nylon that is extremely high density and this bag feels super tough and it probably won't rip too easily

 the hip belt on it is bomber and the buckle stays secured really well. I really like that it has a bunch of pockets and the access in the side here like that is super awesome. And having this stretchy pocket in the front for putting a helmet or just some extra gear that is definitely essential if you're looking for a backpack for just getting into the back country, I would highly suggest this bag. Gregory Katmai 65L backpack: Tested and Reviewed!

  I wish Gregory had not removed the right-side pocket for the side zipper.  Also wish they had used a U-shaped zipper like the Baltoro.  If looking at Gregory packs, also consider the Baltoro at about the same weight – it has a U-shaped zipper but lacks the front pocket of the Katmai. I recommend this pack

•	Side Zipper – very good but I use a pack liner, so the capability is not needed for me. 

Great Pack for Mid to Heavy Weight Loads

 If it's spring or fall, and it's going to be separate from everything that's in the main compartment. and there's not a lot of packs out there with a second separate pocket like this that aren't dedicated winter packs, so I was super happy to find one like the Catmai wear it has that feature as well. There's tons of straps on this pack, and if you've ever gone fall or winter camping and you are carrying tons of gear, you know that having straps is good because you can start strapping a lot of your bigger bulkier items to the pack lake. Right now I have a hot tent stove on here

 You could also strap your foam pad if you are bringing that extra little piece of insulation underneath for underneath your sleeping pad. In addition to these bottom straps, which are actually also very good for strapping snow shoes onto, I've done that on a couple winter trips as well. You have some side compression straps here, Which are good for something like a foam sleeping mat and then on the other side you've got a couple more straps for things like tent poles, anything you want to strap into this side pocket here and you can also strap things underneath the brain and then. A feature that is going to be awesome for those really hot summer days, especially for those of you who run hot is the mesh backing here

 If a pocket can fit a green belly meal, then it's a good size and the Gregory Cat might just just fits one of these bars. It actually is quite tough to then do up the the pocket once you put that meal inside of it. As you can see, I'm also having trouble just keeping this pack standing up. A bad thing about it is that if you just put it on the ground then it's not going to stay standing up

 Another bad thing that I was kind of surprised about was the hip belt pockets, especially with how the trends have been to have bigger and bigger hip belt pockets. The hip belt pockets on the Gregory Katmai are really small and what I do in order to test that out is I do the the green belly meal test. If a pocket can fit a green belly meal, then it's a good size and the Gregory Cat might just just fits one of these bars. It actually is quite tough to then do up the the pocket once you put that meal inside of it

Backpacking Pack for Every Season // Gregory Katmai Review

 Fit wise I am always a M/L Gregory (and most others) this pack fit perfectly out of the bag without much adjustment!

 The balance was great with about 25lbs on average in my hikes (not including water for the day). I think my only complaints were that the zipper covers were a bit too wide and could make zipping the pack a bit more difficult than necessary at times, but technique helps with that. The 'brain' is also a bit more difficult to remove from this pack compared to some others and the straps can get confusing when tired but I think most packs have those last two problems. Overall it is a great large pack in my opinion even for warmer hikes with heavier gear
