 So I talked about what's on the outside a little bit: let's open it up and take a look at the inside. Yeti Tundra 65 Hard Sided Cooler Review

TL;DR: convince my wife that a yeti tundra can be a multi-purpose tool and not just a cooler (ex: natural disaster food storage, lock box, shelter for our cat during a tornado)

 We went camping and it went toe to toe with my Tundra 65. We used ice from the same bait shop, same time, and used the coolers about the same.   

I know there is tremendous loyalty in this group, and for good reason. However, I was wondering if anyone has personal experience with the RTIC Ultra-Light Cooler 52 quart. I know it's not rotomolded, but I'm not as concerned with durability as I am with ice retention. What is your personal experience with it? I'll spend twice as much on a Yeti if necessary, but my gut is telling me that I should go with RTIC. Thanks for your input.

YETI vs RTIC

2.	While it holds a good amount, it’s still a small cooler. This is not a flaw obviously as the dimensions were given before I bought it, but after 8 cans of beer, some deli meats, and two condiment bottles, I was struggling to access certain things and also tight on room. 

 It frequently swings and hits my shins. Two sides rope carry would still be ideal - this thing gets heavy and swingy. The metal handle allowed me to hold it more steadily.

 Now I know why the farmers have their yeti's in the back of their trucks and the people are no where to be seen and they don't get stolen. They are to heavy to move especially if they have ice and drinks inside. Sorry guys. Your stuff is just too high priced for me to buy one again

 These don't have wheels either which at the time of purchase those were sold out. I do like the baskets in them. Haven't taken it to the boat yet because of the weight We will have to put it on a dolly and not put ice in it until we get it on the boat. We will have to leave it in the boat

 The cost is ridiculous. So I bought these on Prime day of which I had to pay full price once I looked around. Anyway once I got them I loved the color and was so excited to use it. However the weight of the ice chests is crazy

It is okay but not impressed

  You can see by the deformation of what was supposed to be the catch for the rubber latch that this defect IS NOT merely mold flashing that was improperly trimmed. The area of the cooler is MALFORMED. This malformation happens when the mold leaks.  Don’t blame the poor slobs on the manufacturing floor - leadership decides what is acceptable and when to invest in properly functioning equipment

 If this defect happened on the cooler I received (presumably after making its way past quality control), it’s happening on others.  YETI may have been best-in-class before the founders sold out to private equity in 2012, and the subsequent Initial Public Offering (“IPO”) in 2018.  Today, you need to ask yourself, “Am I purchasing a best-in-class product, or am I accepting POOR QUALITY at a PREMIUM PRICE to pay off an enormous debt that made a handful of people rich?” Hint: You ain’t purchasing a best-in-class product from YETI.  Today if you purchase a YETI product, you’re just a low-level minion paying your hard-earned money for a poor quality product to meet NYSE:YETI’s quarterly earnings targets and related management bonuses

Specifically, the two attached pictures show: (a) the marketing representation of a white, YETI Tundra 65 cooler; and (b) the quality of the product you will actually receive. I’m not a plastics engineer, but it appears that the rotomold used to make this cooler are most likely WORN OUT (the mold is clearly leaking), or the mold was poorly made, or both poorly made AND worn out

  Today, you need to ask yourself, “Am I purchasing a best-in-class product, or am I accepting POOR QUALITY at a PREMIUM PRICE to pay off an enormous debt that made a handful of people rich?” Hint: You ain’t purchasing a best-in-class product from YETI.  Today if you purchase a YETI product, you’re just a low-level minion paying your hard-earned money for a poor quality product to meet NYSE:YETI’s quarterly earnings targets and related management bonuses. AND, this is not an indictment of YETI’s corporate structure, or ownership - there are literally THOUSANDS of companies that are publicly traded that maintain their brand promise, and sell products that are consistent with their marketing. YETI is NOT one of these companies

Leadership Problem at YETI (NYSE: YETI)

Should I pay full price for one on Yeti’s website now or wait for one of the outdoor stores to get them in stock so I can get 10% off? So far Dick’s, REI, etc. don’t even have the new colors listed online.

 This cooler is just wide enough that you can carry it solo still, so the integrated handles are best for that. You also never have to worry about them breaking off since they are built-in.

You will never have to worry about the hinge busting off of this cooler. The system is built into the body of the cooler rather than simply attached later. Two pins are slid into the system that is irremovable to attach the lid to the body.

Organization features can be purchased for the inside of the Yeti Tundra 65. There are slots on the front and back wall that can hold a divider that splits the cooler in half. You can divide your food and drinks to separate sides, making it easier to locate stuff. There is also a rack that sits on the top for foods that you don’t want getting soggy from melting ice

Polyurethane foam is pressure injected into the walls of the Yeti cooler. The sidewalls and bottom have 2 inches of insulation and the lid has 3 inches of insulation. It’s great that they add extra insulation to the lid since that is where most of the heat comes from while the sun is beating down on the cooler.

 I've had no issues with flats and the ride quality has been reasonable despite the smaller 8-inch wheel size thanks to the added cushion of pneumatic tires. If a scooter that costs a thousand dollars comes with tubeless pneumatic tires, then every other scooter that costs hundreds and thousands of dollars more has no excuse. All the other components on this scooter have been performing satisfactorily. The mechanical brakes combined with some light electronic braking has suited this scooter well, allowing me to stop quickly but not too aggressively to throw me over the handlebars
